The park is very peaceful, offering lots of shade & trails that circle around the lake. Canoe/kayak launch is only accessible by foot. You must carry kayak down to the end of a sandy trail that is laden with dips & exposed tree roots, to a narrow clearing just big enough to launch. The fishing could be good here, if better access to the lake was available. I was here on 2 consecutive days in September. On day 1, fish were biting & I caught several dinks & 1 nice fish (6.5lb), the next day my husband came & we barely had any bites. Unfortunately, other than the very narrow kayak launch, there just aren't any areas that offer access to the lake. That said, any time someone launches or comes out, it's lines out. While the trail circles the lake & is, itself, cleared & maintained, it would be very difficult to push through the thick brush & marsh to gain access anywhere else around the lake, at least not without the aid of some machinery. Be alert, as with any Florida lake or pond, gators are present. I didn't see them, but it was evident from their growls that they were very close by. After several hours fishing & making my fair share of noise, a water moccasin swam by, within inches of my feet, at the mouth of the launch (in less than a foot of water) on day 2. Surprisingly, other than gators, the snake, an abundance of frogs & lots of turtles, there really wasn't much other wildlife from what I was able to see. I may have seen 2 or 3 birds all day. The parking lot had several cars when I was there. However, I only ran into 3 or 4 people in 2 days. Overall, a nice little park for a quick walk. Just make sure to bring a stick & some mosquito repellent with you. The facilities leave a bit to be desired. While they are clean, 2 outhouses serve as the only 2 restrooms & no running water is available (only sanitizer in the outhouses. There is a cooler down the trail with water & a bowl for dogs to drink from.

Went here for a lite trail run and walk. It isn’t a bad park. The trail is maintained well enough and it’s fairly clean with a few water stations around the path. The main trail is a circle around the lake and it’s approximately 2.5 miles, so there aren’t any shortcuts back once you’re into it. Terrain is mostly compact dirt and sand with some softer spots around. The canopy is good and helps keep the sun off your head and there are some spots to stop and relax beside the lake. There’s also a very basic canoe/kayak launch. You’ll either need to have help or be ok dragging your boat to the launch because there aren’t any places to back your car in. Parking lot is small but decent with a few portable toilets if needed. If you want to bring children, there isn’t any playground equipment, so make sure everyone is cool with that before you’re 1.25 miles into a 2.5 mile trail.

Choice of easy and scenic hikes with plenty of shade. Threre are stretches where it's usually isolated enough to let dog of the leash without triggering any Karens. I do have my doubts, though, about the absence of an alligator warning sign, especially given that it's a Public Park. I take it as a good sign (pun intended), but keep a very watchful eye when close to the water. So, if it weren't for the alligator "stress" (which, btw, applies to anywhere in Florida that looks like that) it would be an extremely peaceful place to for walk and a swim. With the gator stress it's still beautiful, but more adventurous than peaceful. I researched through the reviews and two (out of hundreds) cite a gator sighting. A ten footer no less. Anyone have any knowledge or thoughts on level of risk of taking a quick dip in these water?
