McFarland House completely exceeded my expectations. I was invited by a friend to an afternoon tea event featuring Tea & Tasseomancy Workshop (with Amy Lou Taylor), held at McFarland House. After enjoying the afternoon tea, Amy took us on a tour of her personal collection, featuring a wide variety of representative teacups, and shared the stories behind them. The entire experience was fantastic; the setting was cozy, and in the sunroom, we could see the colorful maple leaves and the park outside. The staff wore unique costumes, which added to the immersive experience. What surprised me was not just the experience that day, but my newfound interest in exploring the tea culture history from different countries and eras after the event. I almost forgot to mention that the afternoon tea was delicious, with a rich variety, and the tableware was exquisite. The desserts were perfectly sweet, exactly to my liking! I will definitely come back!

The grounds and the experience were wonderful, but there were several drawbacks that would prevent me from going again. Price: For four people to get high tea expect to pay $200, which is expected, but the quality really doesn't justify this price. We could get a full premium breakfast for this price. Food: very underwhelming for the price, I was expecting some more in-house goods not some bulk premade goods that were probably bought from a big box store. Tea: no complaints here the tea was good and coffee is available if tea isn't your thing. Service: our server went missing about half way through the service and we had to rely on another server to get refills and it took an eternity to get the bill reconciled. Overall a 3/5 of experience. Improving the food and service would go a long to justifying the high cost.

Overpriced now for what it is. Used to be able to share the afternoon tea, and now they don’t let you. They were not polite about explaining that they had made this change since we were last there. They also give you very small portions of the whipped cream, jam and milk unless you ask for more. For example, they suggested we finish the small amount of milk they gave us before we could get more. I had to insist that they bring us a couple more servings of milk before we ran out. We ended up using about three times the milk they initially gave us. If I pay $200+ here for tea for four people, I shouldn’t have to quibble over milk, and explanations about major policy changes should be polite and apologetic. And ideally posted on the website so people can plan in advance, rather than being hit with sticker shock.

Lovely historic house owned by the parks system that serves Afternoon Tea, Champagne Tea and Children’s Tea. Staff are dressed in period costume and teas are available to purchase. Highly recommend reserving in advance. The tea room is a lovely conservatory with wooded views built onto the back of the house. Afternoon Tea consisted of four types of sandwiches, 3 delectably tender scones per person with cream and jam and three miniature desserts per person. You get your choice of teas, served in a press and refreshed with hot water as needed. Servers are delightful and it’s just a fantastic traditional tea experience.

We had a lovely tea service at the McFarland House. The glass room was perfect. We loved the natural light. We had a wide selection of tea to choose from. The finger sandwiches, scones and desserts were delightful. The service was a tad on the slower side but he was very knowledgeable. The only downside is having to pay for parking like all of the other Niagara Park locations. I would definitely recommend giving this a try. We did make reservations and highly recommend that.
