I enjoyed every minute of it, but your experience here is what you make of it. If you're willing to put yourself out there and take what UC has to offer, then you'll enjoy it. There are 10 things you should consider if you're thinking of applying to this school as a freshman living on campus:
The cost of room & board alone is expensive compared to what you can get elsewhere. Other schools offer more dining options & facilities that are open later into the evening and weekends. You get more bang for your student loans elsewhere. Or you can save money by getting an associate's and then transferring over for your junior & senior years.
UC has a great PT/OT program. Anything related to health studies is good here. Cybersecurity, computer science and construction management are also trending up.
UC's administration does not support Greek life, but Greek life is great for those who want to participate in it. For anyone who doesn't, the good new is you don't need to pledge in order to have a social life on campus.
I still frequent the library and gym as an alumnus. Excellent facilities.
Intramural competitions are just as fun to watch as they are to participate in.
For UC athletics, football games, basketball games and especially hockey games are much-watch sports.
Be smart about your partying and you'll be fine. If your idea of partying is dancing and keeping it classy, then you'll need to find the right group of people. Avoid people that want to peer-pressure you into drugs and other dumb things.
As a small school, the intimate classroom environment may or may not be for you. If you like having an environment where discussions are frequent and you can get to know your professor, then awesome. If you are the type who likes to be left alone... and you don't like it when the professor checks up on you like a third parent, then perhaps you prefer lecture halls at bigger universities.
You might be able to set your class schedule so that you only have classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Don't ever do that. It sounds nice until you have 4 exams on the same day and all of your projects and presentations are due at the same time. If you insist on having a weekday or two without classes, then the ideal schedule in my opinion are Mon-Wed-Fri morning classes.
Beware of 8-week online classes, unless you are prepared to handle the workload. If you ever take a Monday night class, make sure it's with a professor you enjoy or a class you find interesting. I don't know what it is about Monday nights, just trust me...
DO NOT DO YOUR BSN HERE!!!! I signed up here for my BSN here online because the price was right. In addition, no clinical was required. Or so they say. In a play on words they call it a mentorship. I received an associate's degree from a SUNY community college. The instructor in my class even calls it a clinical experience. Over the next 8 weeks I have to do 8 hours a week of mentorship aka clinical In addition to working full time and doing all the other class requirements. Considering this is the reason that I chose you to college this does not make me happy. If I had known there was going to be a clinical requirement after they told me that there was not going to be I would have just gone to SUNY School where they would have taken more of my credits and I would have had less classes to take. DO CHAMBERLAIN PEOPLE!!! They are a little bit more expensive but they will take more of your credits and there is absolutely no clinical. Oh BTW, Some of the instructors in the program are very good but I would say about 85% of them are less than helpful. I had an experience where I did not understand a set of instructions and emailed the instructor who proceeded to copy and paste the same instructions in to my email that I had questions on. GARBAGE BSN PROGRAM, AND...
Read moreHi I started the Utica college nursing program last year in August and I am looking forward to graduating this year as promised. Being in this program you to have to mentally and physically prepare yourself for the stress that this program entails. Over the past year I barely slept and lost a tremendous amount of weight, I hardly recognize myself anymore. The only relief I received was when my family visited from New York to encourage me to continue. If you plan on attending you have to be very careful; recently my classmates and I took a test and after the results, Utica college threatened to remove us from the program due to the fact that the only students who passed the exam where African Americans and believed that we "cheated". I have studied endless nights and the fact that this school can falsely accuse a hard working student is...
