A lot of hoopla about this place and I finally visited. It is indeed interesting. And loud. Going to a pretty trail is sorta ruined when you have to listen to a gravel factory, or whatever that place is, in the background.
Also I’m not understanding the Narnia thing. This looks nothing like anything in Narnia, not in the books anyway. The rocks are surreal and would be even more so if people weren’t allowing their hordes of children to climb on them and tear the moss off. I saw this happen. They had like 5 kids and they were screaming and running around and climbing the rocks and throwing moss clumps.
Also off leash dogs.
Also, really wide people walking two abreast on narrow trail so there’s no way to get around them with having to ask permission to pass.
Also, at the parking area I went to look at the water by the bridge to see the ducks and apparently people use this copse of trees as a toilet. Horrifying. There is human shit and toilet paper everywhere. Absolutely appalling.
Yet another place that would be lovely if people...
Read moreGreat hike, but other individuals need to learn some of the "hiker etiquette" in a sense. Everyone goes at a different pace, but please be aware of people behind you and step to the side to let them pass if there are people walking behind you. Be observant of your surroundings and considerate of others, please! I absolutely love hiking, but the common sense of sharing the path was not there for a few couples that myself and a coworker came up to. Absolutely gorgeous hike, though! Take hiking/walking poles, though, if you are unsteady or accident-prone like myself. Also, some good hiking boots would be my recommendation to help with ankle support in the event that your footing slips or if your foot gets caught in a crack or something. Tons of roots, branches to dodge, and lots of rocks and boulders to watch out for or scramble over. Great hike with the right...
Read moreThis place is simply amazing. I have traveled all over the US and have never seen anything like this. Highly recommend. Trail is often filled with tree roots, uneven ground and bolders but it’s the UP of Michigan, in the woods in the middle of nowhere, across from a Dolomite mine and processing plant. Expecting anything else is naive. From the things I’ve read, this land was once only accessible by boat being landlocked by private property owners. It has since been purchased and is available for all to enjoy. From my understanding, the land surrounding this trail is still privately owned so please be respectful and stay on marked trails. Not sure I would have appreciated this adventure as a kid but it is truly a hidden gem in the eastern upper peninsula...
