Hubby and I took our toddler and we had so much fun! But yes there's a but! $50! For 3. She's two. Why is she paying to go in ? I took her to Belvedere last weekend in Fredericksburg VA and she did not pay. It was $26 they added a $4 fee because I bought the ticket at the booth. My toddler was free. Apart from that they charge $6 for the only ride. They have a pumpkin launcher which was so cool. $4 for one round and $7 for two rounds. We ended up doing 3 rounds. The guy was very nice! But for what we paid all that should have been included. They had a stand with alcoholic cider. Not bad. I paid $16 (I think) for two. Got food : cheese pizza,Chilli and hotdog with chilli. Also a donut. The donuts are sooooo good! Get a whole case! The chili was ok. The hot dog was good. The pizza was burnt on the crust. Not able to eat. Super hard. I guess we can say overcooked. Overall would I come again ? Yes,but still think my two year old shouldn't have to pay and for the price the pumpkin launcher and onu ride should be free . We had a great time!! was definitely full of people. They even had a baby center I guess to change diapers. The way to get in - the road is tricky ,one way road. be-careful.
Update 10/09/22
I’ve come here 2 times. The first time was fall 2021 it was $15 per person. The second time was today it was $17 per person. The lady at the gate was friendly. They take cash and card.
You pretty much pay for everything in there which really sucks for the amount of $$ you pay. $6 pony farms. The pumpkin you pay 75 cents per lbs of the pumpkin. They have food for pay. The hayrides I think are free not sure we were able to do it this time. The face painting is between $10-$20. Friendly this lady that painted my child. Porta johns for bathroom. Please make sure you have your own toilet paper because there was none in majority of them and no one really checking to fulfill them either. There is a lot to do. But everything you gotta pretty much pay for and that sucks. Not complaining much because my child had fun. But I rather take her elsewhere. Parking isn’t bad. Staff has been friendly when we’ve gone. The pant farms should be at least 4 ...
Read moreButler's Orchard is probably one of the only good ones in the area that is actually open all year long. They have something going on for every season. Whether it's berries in the summer, pumpkins and apples in the fall or trees in the winter. They also have an inside market stand that carries baked goods, produce, canned items, candy, home decor, gifts and etc.
You can reserve a slot online for berry picking, pumpkin picking or apple picking during the appropriate seasons. And then just drive up to where you need to go.
I love their pumpkin selection in the fall. I also love that they offer custom wreath making during the holidays. And my favorite is their pies. You can get them frozen to bake at home or already baked. And they are so delicious! The pie flake is perfectly chewy and they're not terribly sweet. Pumpkin and Strawberry Rhubarb are ON POINT!
During the pandemic, the picking events seem to be better about social distancing. Whereas the market, isn't as managed. While they claim to have limited capacity and require masks, the several times I've visited recently - they have been either over capacity, someone is not wearing their mask properly or following the 6ft. social distancing recommendation. Butler's staff aren't really good at making sure that the CDC guidelines are being followed. There are other orchards in the area who have this much better controlled.
Also, in October I was in a wheelchair temporarily. My experience here trying to get a pumpkin and a few other items from the market was awful. They don't make waiting in line for the market wheelchair friendly. On top of that, neither the patrons or customers were helpful. They didn't move out of the way or avoid blocking areas I needed to get through. It was a miserable experience. I can't imagine what it is like for those who are wheelchair bound long term or permanently. How extremely frustrating it must be for them. Butler's needs to...
Read moreIt’s a cute little farmers market and pick your own orchard. However there are some substantial ways they could improve customer experience.
Important: They do not have Honeycrisp apples for pick your own! In general the varieties for pick your own are quite limited (for example currently they only have Gala for picking this given week). It was extremely difficult on their website to figure out what varieties were available, you need to actually start to make a reservation to see what’s available. You also need an appointment to pick your own but they have a farmers market open. In general it seems their premium apple selections (eg Honeycrisp, Snapdragon) sell out very fast in the farmers market/store. You’ll need to call ahead and figure out when they have a shipment to grab fresh apples, which is a lot of trouble. By the way, since these apples aren’t grown in the local orchards(they’re imported from NY or PA) you might as well just get your premium apples from Wegmans or your grocery store since it’s the same produce, buying Honeycrisps here is not actually supporting local farms.
Also when going to the farmers market it felt like the amount of produce was very small. For example they didn’t have multiple baskets of apples to buy in bulk, just small containers of apples to buy in tiny amounts. It’s hard to justify coming all the way down the small, winding road when you can’t buy a peck at a time (if it is possible to buy a peck or half peck at once, please actually put the apples out for people to take and go).
For the pros, the staff are kind and helpful. Also the apple cider donuts sold in the farmer’s market are very tasty with a solid apple taste in them (most apple cider donuts just taste like sugar). Honestly the cider donuts alone will probably draw me to return but I will always be calling ahead from now on since the store inventory is...
