⚠️♿️This is a gorgeous park right off the road available to the public. It is slighty accessible, not all areas, but most. Be aware there is crushed gravel, some bridges, and pavement. If you have mobility issues, stay on the main trail. If you leave the main lake trail, it's far harder as the gravel is larger. I had trouble with my prosthetic, but I was able to get back to pavement and the bridge. The view is really quite beautiful in every direction you see the green tree covered mountains against the blue sky and white fluffy clouds. It was just like a surreal area against the traffic that was right outside the fence. There are 3 large fountains, but only 2 were working and I heard they light up at night, so now I want to drive by and see the color of the lights and I really hope they slowly scroll through many different colors. At least one. There's been a lot of work done here since my last visit, and I hear more trails are planned. You can greatly intensify your workout by taking the trail towards the old girls' school. My only concerns were trees were cut and just rolled down the hill, no one took them anywhere, no one tried to use them as something for the park itself. You are left with just stumps for a chunk of the walk. Another was the amount of litter and trash. All the way down the road, if you look in the ditches, people are throwing trash out of their windows, and when it rains, it all ends up in Cosby Lake somewhere. I found spray paint cans, parts of a pool noodle, water bottles, gatorade bottles, you name it, and there it was. Why not install a litter getter as some of the other parks have or increase fines for littering? Then the litterbug gets to volunteer their time to cleaning it all up. Gorgeous park, loved the natural beauty, the wooden benches with flower boxes on either end, the Scout project signs, the ducks and geese, but where are the swings that were once there? The trees that shade their supports are still there, but there are no swings. I was disappointed. There are several pavilions with picnic tables, a large building with restrooms, several parking areas, fishing is allowed, but there are signs everywhere telling you the sizes that need to be catch and release, dogs are allowed on leashes. However, I only found one waste disposal area. Found several varieties of mushrooms along the mossy sides of the tunnel of trees that looks as if it goes on for infinity and this is the shady area of your walk. Friends of Cosby Lake have worked hard to keep this up for everyone to enjoy. Plenty of garbage cans, help by cleaning up your trash before you leave. Maybe if some solar powered cameras were installed, the swings could be put back into place? Maybe someone can think of something that can be done with the stacks upon stacks of trees that were cut down and the stumps left behind? Something to make it less ugly and bare. It takes away from the whole walk, diminishes the beauty that is all around you. This is a beautiful lake, beautiful area, there is plenty to do and look at to occupy adults and children. Will return, was happy to see it's been added to the Red Rock system. It's on the yellow map if you're looking at FreshWater Land Trust's...
Read moreNice place near Birmingham or a hidden treasure if I may say more eloquently. There are hikes, fishes (not for fishing) and picnic area. There are several swings for the adults. So if you are interested you know the place! There are small waterfalls and most importantly itz pretty quiet for a city of Birmingham. We went in the nearby area for a moon sighting once. The park is officially closed at night. But who can stop you gazing upon the moon near lake which is very closed to the road. One more thing, the goose! There is a large population of goose in the park. They roam the shallow water, tries to catch the little fishes. If you somehow manages to see the place during fall color or during the sunset I envy you. They are quite majestic to look at in my humble opinion. I have never seen in crime or illegal activities in these area. I assume the area is very safe anytime you visit. To conclude, I would describe the place calm,...
Read moreI have to downgrade my rating from two recent interactions with youth at the park. 1). I witnessed two caucasian adolescent males trying to open my locked truck while I was jogging, I stopped and confronted them and they denied it, so I continued jogging and later (15- 20 minutes later) found where one of them had spit a gob of snot on my truck. I located the same boys immediately and demanded they wipe the snot off my truck (he complied). 2). My wife was at the park yesterday 2/12/17 finishing up her daily walk when she emerged from the trail at the neighborhood entrance and witnessed a black male jumping (parkour?) across her car hood!! People let there dogs crap anywhere, But other than all that it is a nice 1.1 mile loop around lake with smooth...
