This is a drop-dead gorgeous lake located in the most amazing scenery. There are many places that you can camp around the lake and don't forget a fishing pole. This is about a 4 hour hike to the lake and a little bit of a climb, but it is doable. The hike is worth it, and while you're in the area, take the short hike over the ridge to its little sister, Little Sawtooth Lake. As always, leave no trace, leave it better than you found it, and enjoy ๐Ÿ˜‰.

It is nice hike but it is a bit long, we went there through Iron creek, which is a 10 mile trail. The total elevation gain was about 1900 feet, the first 3 miles of the trail is almost smooth, and the last 2 miles get a bit intense. The whole hike worth the effort, when we arrived the lake was completely frozen, but still beautiful. If you are lucky, you might be able to see some wilde animal too.

Amazing hike. It was about 5.5 miles to the far side of Sawtooth lake where we camped. It seemed to get crowded on the weekend. But if you are creative you can find some cool spots to camp. We stayed the night next to the first alpine lake past sawtooth. And you can totally swim when the sun is shining!!!!

Might be the most gorgeous lake and hike out of any hike that I've ever done, which is saying something since we've been to roughly a dozen national parks and done well over a hundred hikes over the years.

All 4 of our kids completed the hike, but they are good hikers.

The trail was almost 10 miles roundtrip and almost 2,000 feet of elevation gain.

For what it's worth, if I had it to do over again, I would have skipped the little side trail down to Alpine Lake because you'll have to go back up that side trail to continue to Sawtooth Lake. Not that there is anything wrong with Alpine Lake at all - it is gorgeous - but Sawtooth Lake is just soooo much better that I'd dedicate the extra time to hanging at...
