We had the best time at Red Top lookout trail. We had to park 1.25 miles from the trailhead because a tree fell down, not sure when they will fix it, but this was on May 16th. I think it’s been cleared. The trail was empty, we were the only people there. We were able to spot a bear far away down in a clearing. We didn’t know there were bears in the area. Actually we’re surprised because there was no mention of bears on the animals listed by the trailhead. The hike is consistent incline to the top, but it’s not too bad. We ended up doing like 4 miles total.

The lookout is amazing! You can see forever on a clear day, or lots of different weather all at once. The walk up to the tower is steep but it doesn't take long. The snow melts around memorial day—do NOT attempt to go up here before then! It is dangerous with snow on the road and there is very limited cell signal.

My daughter took me to this and I'm delighted with the choice. I'm 73 years old so my stamina is stressed so this is the perfect spot for a hike up the trail to the lookout tower. It was early October so we got to see the Larches doing their fall change; Beautiful! There is 250 feet of altitude change with plenty of clear spots to stop for a breath. The hardest part would be for your vehicle as the road up to the trail head is pretty rough. I suggest take your time for 20 minutes at...

Easy drive up to parking area. Met a couple who had just gotten married at the top and just came back down and it was only 9am. Great way to start a marriage. Hiked up to agate beds. No luck at finding agates, but thoroughly enjoyed our outing. Gorgeous views. Drive down, around 1ish was much busier than the drive up, lots of cars and bicyclists, but the road is wide enough with enough pullout areas to make it easy and...
