I've been camping in this spot for 38 years. This is primitive camping at it's best. There are 4 large tent pads. But in case you don't understand primitive camping, there is not any running water or toilets. It's about a 20 minute hike to Double Lake Recreation area where you can find toilets and fresh water you can tote back to camp. Or you can drive into Coldspring and get bottled water. Or, if you are a bit more into using your survival skills you can walk 50 yds up to the creek and get water from there, just be sure to boil it first. As you are driving down FSR220 you will see several places on your right where you can pull in and camp. These are designated camping areas, but to locate this particular one (the only on with tent pads and direct access to the Lone Star Hiking Trail) follow these directions. Drive all the way down until you get to the gate and the bridge over the creek, then backup about 50 yds until you see a small winding road to your right and pull in there. That will suddenly open up into a large area. You'll know you are in the right spot if you see a small structure with brown steel pipes sticking out of the ground located right in the middle of the opening.

Great Primitive Campsite with multiple pads for tents and forepits.

This hikers campsite is a very large open grassy area with at least two pad sites. Less than half a mile away is the double lake camp ground that has showers and bathrooms. There is a creek very close by that you can filter water from. It almost always had some running water in it. From this location it is about 4 miles to the the Big...

Small primitive camping area. Good access to the Lonestar Trail and several of the Double Lake biking trails. There are two other designated camping spots along 220. IMHO, this is the nicest...
