The Warm Springs Pool, facilities, and staff were wonderful! We came to visit this area just to experience it after watching the reopening video on YouTube after the renovation was complete. On the first visit, we booked during a coed time and was a little too crowded for our taste from the resort shuttle dropping off packs of people, and there were some older children there too which was surprising because it was not during a family reservation session… but it was a wonderful soak and everyone was very polite and friendly. Today, however, we booked during a ladies only soak hour and while the staff and the pool were again just wonderful, it only takes one bad egg to ruin the entire experience… apparently, racism is still overtly alive in Bath County and one older lady would not stop glaring at my two black girlfriends (fyi… I’m white). At one point, I unintentionally floated “too close” to “her area” of the pool and she said she felt like I was “invading her privacy” - in a public pool - and asked me to go float on the other side. Then, after our float session was over, I approached her in the office to apologize for making her feel uncomfortable for accidentally floating too close to her - even though I had every right to float where I wanted - and she literally held up her hands and made a cross with her fingers and told me not to speak to her?! To be clear, I’ve never been on the receiving end of racism in any form, but apparently it’s still deeply rooted and overtly apparent with some people in this area… even racism by association. It is truly a damn shame that idiots like this still exist as she completely ruined our time in the pool glaring at us constantly when this was supposed to be a relaxing and meditative experience. Again, this had nothing to do with the staff at the pool who were truly wonderful, and earlier today we visited the Omni Homestead Resort to check it out and everyone there was incredibly welcoming and accommodating, so I’m giving this 5 stars. Just be aware that if you’re not white up here in the Virginia mountains, you could encounter some real...
Read moreThe drive to the Warm Baths was beautiful. It was an overcast day and actually a storm was coming through as we got there. We enjoyed the beauty and sound of water as we drove up. Nice little towns we passed as we traveled towards the Springs. We felt such peace, we could smell the water and smell of earth that permeated the air. I told my husband, I could live here, easily. We passed the springs just sightseeing but turned around and got there a few minutes after. There are different times and sessions. Co-ed, men and women apart and a 1 hr soak was $25. I'm not sure if you're staying at the resort, it's included but I did hear the staff announce the shuttle was leaving promptly in 20 minutes after 5 minute call to exit the spring was made. The reception was warm and then they walk you to the entrance of the spring and there are numbered spaces available, a curtain as a door, bench and wall hooks to place your clothes and belongings. I got in and grabbed some pool noodles that were available for free to use and placed them under my neck and knees and drifted off to sleep just about. Water was so nice and warm and it's quiet in there 😌 to relax. As I laid back, looking up there's an opening and the sky is right there. I saw birds fly over, then cool rain began to fall on me as I laid in warm water...bubbles coming up from the rocks running up my back exiting through my neck, then I caught a very light smell of sulfur? Nothing strong but its natural state. You can face down see clearly the floor of the springs. What a beautiful natural wonder and creation of God. Just so wonderful. After I exited I walked a few feet to my car. I didn't see any handicapped parking spots and was a little out of breath but made it just fine. Didn't notice if there was a ramp for wheelchair. Making our way down we stopped at a lovely market in Agusta, got a very nice 1/2 pepperoni half cheese pizza with coffee and made our way down. You do loose reception so no internet or wifi at times. Such a...
Read moreThis was a lovely visit. The office is nice and clean. My friends and I got there fairly early, but there were places for us to sit and wait. We were all given a little info about the history of the pools and their temperature, as well as some general info as far as etiquette goes.
The pools themselves are a tiny bit warmer than body temperature. It's very relaxing. There are changing rooms, however if you are going with a large group, expect to share depending on how many people are present.
The water itself is extremely nice and it was interesting how buoyant I was in the water. They give you pool noodles, which was nice. If you are sensitive to getting water in your ears I do recommend bringing ear plugs as the best way to enjoy this is laying back in the water.
My only thought is that I do wish there was something I could use to kind of easily hold my feet in place in the water, so that I didn't move around as much. The natural flow of the spring and the movement of others kept me moving around a little, so I would occasionally have to reposition myself so I didn't bump into others or the decking. Nothing that I'd consider to be a deal breaker, just something that would be nice. Other than that, be aware that the steps are a bit slippery due to algae. The pool as a whole is very clean, though.
I also wanted to add a note - if you just want to look at the buildings without going in, you should be able to do that. There's also a small spring/pool outside of the building. It's nowhere near as good as the real thing, but if you're pressed on time it can be a nice alternative. I do recommend devoting some time, though.
Parking is fine, but I would recommend getting there a bit early. Most of the people are coming from either the hotel or the nearby rentals, but you do get people who come in specifically for a soak.
You really leave the water feeling awesome and relaxed. I just wish I...
