So we planned a short day trip to this little town, based primarily on a visit to this winery. Which we based primarily on these reviews... Truly we get no satisfaction from saying this place was an extreme disappointment. We are from the metroplex, but do not consider ourselves 'high maintenance' at all. Seriously this winery is s joke.
We expect a little friendliness, a little welcoming atmosphere when we visit wineries (as a military guy I've been to them all over the world, plus Northern California), but did not feel this in the least from the staff at the Red Caboose. One individual was brand new, and apologized for not being able to tell us anything about the wine. The lady who took our tasting order was little better. We tried to engage in friendly conversation, but basically all we learned was her being from the country and how much she hated city life... ok. I would have been fine, but she kept walking away and leaving us standing there with empty glasses.
A third lady was more friendly, she'd been there ten years, and tried to engage us a little. Vineyards are up around Meridian etc... The wine itself was not great. The cabernet actually had a little wang to it lol. I get that it pales to places like Sonoma etc, so how's about you try a little harder huh?
We drove down from Fort Worth for the day, looking forward to spending the better part of an afternoon here and prepared to spend some money. But this place seemed to care less. They were fine with their local customers, it was a regular Cheers in there, but don't travel from out of town on a special trip. Drive a little further and go to the winery at Stonewall.
Again, no ax to grind here. Just wish I'd read a review like this instead of the other fluff. It would have...
Read moreIt gives no pleasure to write negative reviews, to me anyway. But it can be helpful to others. The Red Caboose Winery has a pleasant roomy interior and generally friendly staff and patrons. However, all products I tried were of mediocre quality at best, especially for their price. The price I paid for one item was much higher than that listed. My fault for not questioning this. The spirit flight I tried was VERY lightly poured. I was offered a snack with my tasting that never showed up. The people next to me got one. One item that stood out was their cilantro-infused vodka ... delightful! They have a beautiful painting of some dogs chasing a red caboose. Perhaps symbolic? Sadly, that alone is not a reason to...
Read moreCharming place to sample local wines and spirits from their vineyard in Meridian, Texas. I think the live-edge tasting bar adds is own charm. There's some really wonderful flavors Temp, Merlot, Sharaz that goes well with their charcuterie board matched with bread and flavor olive oil. If your not into wines, please go for the jalapeno or cilantro flavored vodkas. Plus their new bourbon is very good neet. Look for the occasional live music on a Saturdayevening. I'll...
