Awesome place to go hiking if you're really into picker bushes, lots of poison ivy, and downed trees on the trails every 8 feet. Great place to fish if you are into snags every other cast and no possibility of hiking to the shoreline. Only place to fish from shore is near the dam or at the boat launch. Awesome place to hunt if you like not actually getting anything and being surrounded by 40 other hunters. Twenty years ago, this was one of my favorite places to spend time. Now, it is an overgrown nightmare, and a forest fire waiting to happen. In my opinion, it needs a controlled burn. DCNR apparently has abandoned it and is letting it do what nature does. Which is fine, but don't call it a state park that has hiking trails and fishing and hunting and biking trails. It does have a nice-looking disc golf course if you're into that. And it is good for fishing if you have a boat...but not a big boat....
Read moreThe first time I went here, Google sent me to the boat launch area which is nice but not much else to do. Decided to try it again after seeing it has 14+ miles of trails. Today I found the 3 main parking areas around the very large lake. The dam area has the largest lot with people picnicing, fly fishing, and playing disc golf on an 18 hole course! It took a long time to find the hiking trails as I couldn't find any maps or signs showing where trails began. Finally found the West Shore Trail which cut through a very nice wooded area- shady with many rocks, moss and tree roots. Saw some frogs, woodchucks, and a herd of deer. The boat launch area was busy though I didn't see any boats in the water. Overall this park is very nice. My only suggestion would be better marked park entrances and trail maps by the...
Read morePrompton State Park isn't your typical State park, and that's what makes it such a great place. The park surrounds Prompton Lake, a man made lake maintained by the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers. There are over 25 miles of trails, most of which are on the east side of the lake, for hiking and biking. The 290 acre lake is open to fishing and boating (up to 10hp motors) and is great for kayaking. The south end of the park is where you will find the picnic area and 18 hole disc golf course. There is no camping. Keep an eye out for the family of Bald Eagles that live at the park, Osprey, Great Blue Herons, Egrets, Black Bears and Bobcats among...
