Great experience for everyone in your family!
Not only will you learn something, but the nature is absolutely beautiful and the waterfall is so quiet and relaxing! Not to mention super easy to get to! Only a quick two minute walk on paved concrete.
The visitors center was very clean, welcoming and informational. There’s a 6 minute LED display of how the battle occurred. The gentleman working the desk was also very knowledgeable and kind.
My husband and I packed a cooler and lawn chairs, found a tree near the visitor center and set up for a picnic. We would recommend this to future visitors as well! There are some rocking chairs on the visitor center porch and some picnic tables at a near by shelter in the shade but we preferred space with a breeze.
We also drove over to the Horseshoe Falls trail and it was BEAUTIFUL! The waterfall was very pretty and worth a swim!
Side note: The horseshoe falls trail is super easy and quick. (I accidentally forgot my tennis shoes and walked it in flip flops with no problem). Took us about 25 minutes round trip, but we also stopped to read all the placards. If you are walking the trail for the nature hike or if you’re following the story placards then we suggest going RIGHT where the trail loop meets, but if you’re only wanting to get to the battlefield we suggest going left. It’s a quicker alternative...
Read moreNice facility, clearly marked where to enter and park. It had just rained 2 days before so the trails were a little mushy. The short path has good shade, but tree limbs are across the path vs having a cement path(expected it's nature), also there are steps on the trail, so stroller use not great unless you have help. Wonderful nature views. They have a nice covered picnic area with bathrooms right next to it. The main building has an amazing architectural, massive covered porch, and rocking chairs to enjoy the view and sounds of nature (when my kids aren't running past). Inside main building has lots of information around the room along with artifacts. In the middle of the room is a model of the battlefield, and if you desire can ask the Park Staff to play the 6 minute, lighted informational program. I will say if alot of people are in the building with back noise, you will not be able to hear it. They have a nice array of purchase time relative articles, such as the mouth harp, cup and ball catch, stuffed animals from the nature that surrounds it, and even soldier sets. There is also a nice book selection pertaining to that time period, and ones on snakes, birds, trees, etc., if you choose to go that route. Overall we had a wonderful time. See their website for other Ranger and Settler...
