This is an awesome little hike! I discovered this gem back in 2013 when it was still "hidden" and not even on Maps yet (it was mentioned a few times in forums using coordinates).
I'm thankful that it's largely remained in tact despite the increase in popularity but there are some things to keep in mind. As with any popular spot, it is now congested on weekends and there's a parking fee (this was not a thing years back but I don't blame them for trying to capitalize on the surge in visitors). Some areas of dirt are soft so there's a slight chance of getting stuck. Don't worry, a regular car can make it to the parking area. If you go during the summer take plenty of water as it gets extremely hot.
Oh, KEEP YOUR DOG AT HOME as they're not allowed on the trail. I mistakenly took mine as there were no such signs posted years back.
Enjoy the little hike and take all your trash back...
Read moreThis was the highlight of my trip to Anza – Borrego Desert State Park, although i'm not sure if it's within the park boundaries. Nevertheless, I almost did not drive to the trailhead because of the dirt road which i thought was not suitable for my little toyota yaris. But I took a chance and soon learned it was not that bad even for a non 4 wheel drive car. It really isn't! Just go slow. The Slot canyon itself is beyond incredible. I have been to Antelope Canyon in Arizona which is another slot canyon but i did not like the crowds there. There are way less crowds here even though it's popular. This slot canyon, in my opinion, is as good if not better then Antelope. Go...
Read moreGreat spot for an early morning hike or at sundown! You'll have to slow down to catch the turnoff to the dirt road that leads to the hike because if there was a sign, we missed it. Carry cash! It's a $10/day fee. There are bathrooms but no sink so bring sanitizer if you need to use them. Dogs are not allowed on the trail. Even though the slot is the main attraction, the entire hike trail is a little over 2 miles (I attached a photo of the route). Trek shoes are recommended but not necessary. We did half of the trail since we didn't want to drive after dark and it was fun!...
