My friend showed me this beautiful area when we were visiting Burlington. I have been in Colchester numerous times over the past 12 years, but never came here!

We came about 1 hour before sunset on a hot day in early summer, so it was quite buggy. I'd recommend wearing long pants and sleeves if you can or bring bug spray!

Parking was pretty easy and we were able to find a spot quickly.

It was a bit of a walk to get out to Lake Champlain, I'd say about 10 minutes, but it's totally worth it for the views.

Once we got out to the water, it was great to walk along the path with the water on each side. I just love seeing the lake and the mountains in this beautiful state! This spot was very peaceful and serene.

According to the city website, this is a 4 mile long and 10 foot wide gravel path. We spotted other walkers, bikers and people with their pets.

This would be an amazing spot to visit in...

This was really cool! Not many parks like this one. I biked across it with my wife and we had a blast. Just be warned that if you're out in the sun and prefer to get shade, you're pretty exposed on the causeway so be careful to wear sunscreen and/or clothing to protect you. There are a few places with trees, particularly early on before you get way out in the causeway. If you want to go the whole way you have to take a short ferry to the other part of the causeway, but it's a ways out. I may be wrong, but I think the ferry is free, however they need donations to help run the service. Definitely worth a trip out whether on bikes or foot. If on a bike, beware of a few places that got washed out. Sometimes you have to pull over to...

Lake Champlain Causeway is Beautiful beautiful beautiful you must go you can walk it ride your bike push a baby stroller it is definitely not to be missed . You can pick up the nice bike trail from Colchester which goes right across Lake Champlain and at the end you take a ferry a veryv short distance to get to the second part of the bike trail which is in South Hero. Or you can bike the entire trail from Burlington which is a much longer ride. Once you leave the causeway in South hero there’s a winery is farms there’s shopping centers restaurants that you can Patronize. To take the ferry is a donation of five dollars each way and that helps support the ferry so people can ride the...

Hidden gem of Burlington as a tourist. There’s parking nearby where you can walk out on to the path into the middle of Lake Champlain. We drove around a bit then realized there’s no parking at the end (just a heads up with how private it gets out there). We walked out right after a rain storm so we got to see a double rainbow on both sides of the lake. We were trying to watch the sunset but the clouds covered the mountains on the New York side blocking the view. Lots of locals out biking or walking their dog as it’s nothing but lake water calmly hitting the rocks . If I lived here, I’d be out there running or biking more often than not as you can’t beat the view.

Definitely a highlight of Lake Champlain. I came here for a nice Saturday stroll in March. I will admit the constant breeze on the lake made it cold, but the views definitely made up for the discomfort. I would highly recommend a walk or bike ride down this causeway. It’s a unique experience to be walking along a path in the middle of the lake, while admiring some of the interesting objects that get washed up along the sides. Not to mention, as the sun begins to set and the clouds clear you get an awe inspiring view of Vermont and New York’s mountains overlooking the lake!

Great bike path and enjoyable for all ages. Pet friendly - please leash animals as cyclist go by very quickly. One thing to note is the path doesn't go all the way to South Hero. It stops at a break about 3 miles into Lake Champlain where you need to take a ferry. Another thing to note is the parking lot is very small (only about 20-25 cars max) so many people parked along the road. The path is a gravel like material that would be very tough on roller blades. Hybrid or mountain bikes would likely be best although walking or jogging is always an option.
