I had a lot of high hopes for this University and honestly I’m just really disappointed. I applied and committed here after receiving a scholarship and because it was the most affordable to my family. I started attending in Fall 2022 and achieved very good grades. However, these were not earned because the University set me up for success. I have experienced majority of my troubles due to Disability Services. I had applied for accommodations for my impairment and the first woman (She was very respectful and understanding) I spoke to accepted and approved my documentation and said my appointment was all set. I scheduled this appointment as soon as possible which was like 2-3 weeks away on a Monday. Literally the last Friday in the afternoon before my appointment, a second woman (J.T. In Disability Services) denied my documentation and explained that I needed to go and get new documentation before my appointment if I wanted accommodations. Totally understandable; however, letting me know on the Friday afternoon before my appointment literally a couple days away was completely unprofessional. Some may not know, but scheduling an appointment with an ENT can be really difficult as their schedules are extremely busy. There was 0 chance that I could get documentation that weekend or that Monday morning. When I explained my issue and pointed out that she had two weeks to contact me about this, she was extremely disrespectful and condescending. As a solution for myself, I requested to meet with a different coordinator as I did not feel that this one would be fair or respectful towards me even if I were to provide that documentation. She kept dismissing my request for a different coordinator and saying that she would still meet with me on Monday but would not even begin my process for accommodations. I decided that that was not useful to my time because my problem wasn’t being solved. Also, you cannot request accommodations more than once, so I couldn’t even schedule an appointment with a different coordinator independently. I did leave a complaint with a couple different centers FYI. I told my professors about my impairment and they accommodated the best that they could. Unfortunately, I was treated very poorly by fellow classmates during group projects (which is too much to explain). In very short summary, my teammates made it very difficult for me to understand or be included in what was going on. I feel it is because sometimes able-bodied individuals seem to correlate disability and intelligence levels (I can promise that was the case here). I want to make it clear that I did reach out to the professors and that it didn’t really get solved. I finished the fall semester and the grades I earned were through my efforts. I was not provided with the accommodations I needed to achieve equity. I worked very hard independently. I say all this because I don’t want people to think that just because I got good grades that my experience was equal (in difficulty) to able-bodied individuals. Yes I got the same work as them, but I had to work extra hard to try and understand how to complete it as I can not interpret verbal instruction. I’m still attending now and still dealing with the same issues. I’m applying for transfer in other universities who are actually inclusive and don’t just claim to be in a stupid statement made in 2017 to save themselves. I don’t know what that flyer contained, but if it was genuine criticism, you should’ve applied the changes to fix it. UCCS has not been an inclusive environment for me and many other disabled individuals. I would recommend finding a school that has a more professional, organized establishment that is...

I enjoy many aspects of this school bit the disabilities services is dreadful. They had zero care to my concerns and will force you to meet with someone even if you aren't comfortable with them. Accommodations are always a battle to use here. To also add on as well, the disabilities team feels that a two day extension is enough, I disagree with them on this. One accessibility instructor even told me thag I was lucky to have the extension policy because not many other students do. What does that have to do with giving people who have to work three times harder just to achieve the same success as students who don't have disabilities, but I guess it's up to them, not on your disabilities on what's allowed. The whole team are beyond outdated with policies and they should seriously reconsider them. Also to add on adhd and autism are a daily disability. I enjoyed working with all the instructors, I pike the fact that the instructor actually get to make their own course material.

Finally one question I would have to ask is this the military? Or is it a professional education because at the end of the day it's hard to tell with the colleges behavior.

Also if this college is set up like the military, what's the positives of going to a college like that? To let people decide who and what deserves what instead of the person's disabilities alone? The accessibility team here is beyond unprofessional, condescending and not mentally fit to be in a position that is supposed to be their for students eith disabilities.

I am overall bothered ny the way this college treats continuing students, funny they tell me they want students to graduate here, but then when you look at the completion rate at this college its beyond low.

The college does offer grants but not that many unfortunately.

Update: after using the colleges services more, the recreation center here is amazing, they have so many options for medicail care to make a students life better, massage therapy, physycial therapy, hiv tests and so much more. I can now see why people recommend uccs.

The financial aid office is a night mare, to work with the advisors here a re rude to work with and have put words into my mouth and have been cutting me off. Good luck working with these people

I do not recommend uccs.

Another positive about this college is the fact that their are a ton of internships for many fields, whichever career field you are going for UCCS most likely has an internship for it, and or they will help you land a job in that field; I am speaking on the engineering department as im not sure if the other departments have them as well.

Update: I decided to transfer out as the cs department hasn't listened to my concerns, took months to respond to my concerns and caused me so much stress to where it ultimitely burnt me out from attending here anymore. I do not recommend UCCS as a uni for Any...

UCCS is a great school and best bang for your buck. Campus is nice and will continue to improve as construction finishes up. While the Freshmen and Sophomore classes are sometimes pretty large (usually the Science classes for me, others were pretty small), your Junior and Senior level classes are extremely small which allows you to connect with not only the instructors but students as well, which is often a problem in large classes. Graduating in May and do not regret my decision to come here.

A few tips of advise: Parking does SUCK, it may improve next year with the new parking garage. Either live on campus, come early, or park in the parking lot away from the campus and get a shuttle, no other way around it until they figure out a long term solution.

Pay attention to your student portal when it comes to Financial Aid. Sometimes things may come up out of the blue without your knowledge. Also, it is best to talk to an ACTUAL staff member at Financial Aid. No offense to the student employees, they sometimes do not know what they are talking about and just assume things which can sometimes cause problems, do yourself a favor and talk to an actual staff member to get the best information or solution regarding a problem.

Finally, if you do stay on campus, Summit Village, the Freshmen dorms, seems to be very active given the impression I have seen from it. On the other hand, Alpine Village is not very active in the social aspect. Hope you have good roommates and you should be set for the year, otherwise get involved with something because Alpine Village is like an actual apartment community, little to no interaction with...
