Earlier this week I hiked the Arbaney Kittle Trailhead. I took Highway 82 from Basalt and turned on Bishop Road and then turned left and followed the signs to the parking lot next to the trailhead. On a weekday by 11am, the dirt parking lot was starting to get full, so prepare to get there early on the weekends.
The Arbaney Kittle trail is a 1.75 mile steep incline hike which takes you approximately 1,800 feet up to a viewpoint (see my pictures for the view). After stopping for pictures at the viewpoint, we then climbed back down the 1.75 mile dirt and rock trail to get back to the car.

Read moreThe first 1.75 miles from the parking lot is a steep climb up to an incredible view! If you push onward the trail climbs more slowly.
Around 7.6 miles in there is a natural spring running from a pipe into a water trough. It is here you need to be careful to follow the new trail designated by sticks payed by rangers. The new trail is safer, easier to follow, and unblocked by fallen trees.
If you continue then around mile 10.5-11 it meets up with some other trails, although based on the app AllTrails, the Arbaney Little Trail continues after passing through these...

You can go out and back on the main trail or start to the left from the parking lot (labeled by one metal pole) and hike straight up and around and then down the main trail. Steep! Snow chains or spikes for your shoes and poles a must if you have bad knees. Met a very nice local woman who showed me the ropes!...
