This review is only for the Wine Tasting event. We had a very pleasant evening (6:30-9:30 p.m.) with about 60 other guests. The castle was open for a self-guided tour and docents were available throughout the castle to provide interesting stories and background. The history is fascinating and the art and decorations were quite amazing (much of the art is 15th and 16th Century).
The wine tasting as not quite what we expected but was very enjoyable. A light buffet (self-serve) was provided and included a very nice salad, potato salad, two kinds of meatballs, meat and cheese tray, a vegetable tray, fresh berries, and a sampling of desserts. We lined up and filled our plates and sat at individual tables.
The wine was poured by docents in fun little take home wine glasses. Serving were ample to get a good taste of each of the six tastings (3 white and 3 red). A wine dealer provided a short overview of each wine. Most were Italian/French and there was also a Columbia Valley wine. All the wines were good but nothing was of exceptional quality nor was anything of poor quality.
The pace of the evening was quite slow so prepare yourself to relax and visit as there is quite a bit of time margin between pouring. The food/wine is not paired.
We loved our experience and would be happy to do it again. We had no idea something like this was hiding in the hills south of Denver. The docents love the castle and their jobs and made for an enjoyable,...
Read moreMy niece had her rehearsal dinner here and a couple years ago and they did a fabulous job. Food and service was excellent. Recently attended Saturday afternoon tea and that was just as superb. They really make you feel special and my tea cup never went empty. Choice of Earl Gray, Chai or Green. The sandwiches, scones, muffins and sweets were scrumptious. Plenty of food and they provided take out containers for us to bring the rest home. They even gave us a nice little box with a ribbon which contained some tea and candy. Nice touch! Cute boxes! Fabulous tour of The Castle followed after tea time and we learned some fascinating history. The views of the front range were, oh my, so beautiful! Lots of photo ops. Looked like everyone who attended took pictures of their food before digging into it. Thank you caterers, staff, docents and volunteers for providing impeccable service from start to finish, making it a most enjoyable and memorable day. A lovely and perfect afternoon. Didn't see any elk this visit but did see lots of turkeys along the road inside the Ranch's gate. Look forward to returning again soon, for tea and one of their other events. And guys, tea is not just for the ladies. Several men including the one in our party thoroughly enjoyed it and agreed they'd go again. So...
Read moreWe went for the afternoon tea and tour and it was lovely. There were three different teas offered, and a bountiful amount of food. The usual tea foodstuffs: tea sandwiches, scones, and desserts. They were able to accommodate my food intolerance too (informed ahead when booked Tix). The sandwiches were fresh and filling (curry chicken on croissant, turkey, & apple with brie, and cucumber & mint. The scones (chocolate, and raspberry orange) were a good size, the accompaniments were a little sparingly presented, but had real clotted cream, I do believe, and the jam was delicious (my oldest teen thinks it was raspberry). We also had on our scone tier mini muffins that were cinnamon, and mixed berry. The dessert tier was amazing with chocolate cake, mango passion fruit verrine, and a fruit spear (pineapple, strawberry, and a blackberry). There also was a separate plate with coconut cheesecake.
The tour was fun and informative and the docents were knowledgeable and definitely showed how much they care about the ranch & castle.
I'll definitely be back, and hope to experience other seasonal menus as they rotate...
