Oh WOW! What an amazing place! The terrain is so interesting and unlike any I have seen being a Colorado Native. I fully expected the Roadrunner & Wile E. Coyote to speed out from behind a rock! The red rock spires, cliffs, water features & high desert vegetation all contribute to this beautiful canyon. You can almost feel the Native American spirits that linger there and imagine what the explorers Dominguez & Escalante thought and felt as they made their way through the canyon. The historical value alone is enough to make me want to return over and over again. I love to photograph Colorado and this place has plenty to ignite my creativity. We took our 4wheeler to cover as much terrain in the amount of time we had. (This was a departure from our plans for the day.) We will return prepared to spend more time. I plan to do more reading about this canyon, the history and about the wildlife and other features. I didn't know anything about it going in as we went on a lark. Planning to be...

A fun place to night crawl up the side of a mountain in a rock jumper which I would know no such thing prior to this since extreme sports such as rock jumping and mountains don't exist where I am from (Montgomery, AL ) we have mudbogs and Alabama football and NASCAR and this was the most extreme off roading I have ever done but extremely exciting, slightly frightening( my driver is incredibly adept at this terrain and confident enough in skill to make me forget to wear my safety belt or that the edge of the increasingly higher climbing cliff was literally RIGHT THERE upping the risk that much more...) But it was so beautiful and quiet and still that I almost forgot to take pics...it was the coolest thing I've done in Colorado this...

Loved this place. The views of the canyons were very picturesque and the campgrounds were very well set up. We had a restroom near our campground and they were the cleanest bathrooms I've ever seen in a public campground I've ever seen. The dirt roads were very well maintained, and being an open range, the cows basically made walking trails easy to follow. The water is pretty and very, very cold, and I'd be very cautious about having small children or unleashed pets, as the water flows very, very fast, and could easily prove dangerous. Many of the campsites have established fire pits, and some are improved fire pits with grills. Some campsites have stone benches. There are plenty of campsites that have enough room...

Great multiuse public conservation area open to dogs on leash or under voice control. We were happy to winter backpacking (without snow) and utilize dispersed camping. Beautiful views and well marked trails are popular with locals, trail runners, and backpackers as well. Just south of Grand Junction this was a good alternative to Utah with similarly intriguing geography, geology, and climate.
