I wish I could actually give a review of a "Fishing" experience, but unfortunately we didn't get to that point. Although the "No Catch And Release" policy is posted on their site, our fault for not knowing.. However.. it's pretty disappointing that one would be charged $30 per fish, to simply not KILL a living animal. I'm a fisherman, and I do typically eat the fish, so I am not against it obviously. But, when I'm traveling with small children (who happen to be vegetarian) and simply like to catch fish for the enjoyment, and also enjoy releasing them to see them live, and go back to their habitat, is part of the experience. I'm pretty confused as to why there would be a charge to release a fish back into an ENCLOSED pond, for another fisherman to simply pay the fee and catch the fish a SECOND time! OR....the fish can grow, maybe even spawn, and generate even more income for the family.
If I caught 4 or 5 fish, and threw them back.... the penalty is more than a lot of fishing Tournament entry fees!!!
Now here's another thing.... when learning all this... I really had a hard time wanting to question the employee behind the register, since he couldn't have been any older than maybe 13!!!!!!!!!! And he said nobody else was there, he was running the place, when I asked for a manager.
Is having a young child running a business by himself legal in Colorado? Maybe since it's family owned? Still seemed strange to be told there was no Responsible Adult around to answer questions when it's also a Fishing business where there could potentially be plenty of safety hazards.
We also rented a cabin from the family as well. I will say, their new cabins were pretty nice. They have a few female Elk that are fenced off behind them. There's a small fenced in area that guests can walk over to, to get "a closer look" at them... However, the path is very overgrown with weeds (which makes bad for mosquitos), so standing out there more than a few minutes during a muggy day isn't great... But also.... watch out for DOG POOP as you're walking to it. Only dog I saw there was the owners as they were out in the morning.
7/31/19 -- I would like to put an update on my own review! I learned something I was not aware of. The fact that trout do not react well to being thrown back for different reasons. This does of course change my opinion of the "no catch and release" policy. However... had there been an Adult there to oversee the business, that may have been able to give that information as well, we would have had a COMPLETELY...
Read moreThis is a great place to take young kids fishing for an hour and you are guaranteed to catch a lot of fish, although it’s expensive. Starts at $10-12 for a 10” and up trout. 5 fish = $60-70 bucks. With $3 per person fee. I was a bit shocked walking out of their and paying that much. But the kids slayed it and I had to cut them off or we would have caught more. Done in 1.5 hours. Almost catching a fish each cast.
Let’s just call this what it is. A fully stocked lake with 7-8” fish at the small end to 12-14” good size and tasty trout. I’m sure there are some big giant ones deep down. We cooked up a few and they tasted great. Not mealy like some stockers. It was 90 in denver when we left and 80 degrees at the pond. The road noise is constant but fades after you are there for a while. About 40-45 min from denver with normal mid day traffic. This is not tucked away from the road but it is a nice view and area on the road to Mt Evans.
We caught so many fish so fast the dads didn’t even fish. I actually bent back the barb on the hook so the experience would last longer. They gave us some salmon eggs and worms with our fees. They are fully stocked with rods, lures, nets and are very helpful. You can go up with nothing and rent it all from them.
No fly fishing and No dogs.
Super nice people and good facilities. Benches and several cleaning stations. They will clean for you for an extra $1. Not a ton of shade but they have some vending machines with drinks and snacks. All in a nice day when you want to be guaranteed to catch a...
Read moreBeautiful and classic Rocky Mountain pond setting. Every group there was a family with kid(s) under 10. Bank area spaced enough for about 8 families to be COVID safe. You may use your own poles and tackle or rent from them. In 2 hours we landed 3 gorgeous, healthy-colored rainbow trout; 14", 15", 16.5". The kids were squealing in delight! The cost structure was difficult to follow, delivered by a fellow who may have repeated the mantra a few too many times. That's ok, I've worked jobs like that. Once we finished fishing and got the itemized amount, it all made sense. Worth it, as the kids are asking to go again. The other fellow who cleaned the fish was so informative and kind as he guided us through the process. We're trying his recipe tonight!! An additional star would be given if the staff would have made at least one round during our time to ask "how's it going...do you need help or have questions?" Otherwise, quite a...
