This is our new favorite place in Colorado! We drove to it from Pagosa Springs and the drive is just absolutely stunning. It turns to dirt road but it's fairly wide and very well maintained. We made it all the way and back in a light rain in our chevy equinox ls. Make sure to check out the side stops. We stopped at one on our way and ended up hiking a small trail to cliff overlooks, a cave or 2 and another waterfall! So beautiful. The trail itself is very shaded and kid friendly. Not too steep and not too narrow. We loved it!

Beautiful!! After the drive to Piedra Falls Trailhead you park and walk the fairly easy but very rocky trail to the waterfall. Neat little hike through the forest. The falls are amazing!! Great places to play in the water and climb on the boulders. Bring water to drink. No trash can, no running water, no toilet up here.

This is an amazing place to visit if you are around Pagosa springs. The drive to the falls through the back country roads is breathtaking. We went in May 2019 and there was plenty of water in the falls and the Piedra river. The hike to the waterfall is roughly 0.5 miles and is an easy one.

We almost did not visit this waterfall as when we asked around many of the locals did not have much to say about this or even have any idea about it. When we looked it up we almost did not go as well because it stated that it was approximately 30 miles from us but an hour drive time. I can tell you that we made a GREAT decision by going to the falls. While the drive is long it is amazing the sights that you will see along the way and what a treat. Once you get there you have a short out and back hike that is an easy hike and would be accessible to all if it were not for some of the uneven terrain and the large rocks that you have to step over where it has washed out a bit. You will see some pretty impressive in size volcanic boulders and if you get a chance it is neat to read about La Garita and the part it played in all of this. Once you get to the falls you have a good flow at the base that you can enjoy along with the powerful falls above. This is quite impressive. This without a doubt is worth the drive and the hike. I had read that the mosquitoes can get quite bad however there were none...

Once you reach the dirt on Piedra Rd it is about an hour long, rough drive through the mountains but well worth it! Watch out for the cows and flocks of wild turkeys.

It had rained the night before so the trail was a little slick in places. Walking stick recommended. After a beautiful 20-30 minute hike you can reach the bottom of the falls. Due to the rain the falls were really flowing! It was to cold to jump in the water but we should have.

We loved it. Highly recommend this visit.

Don't forget...
