Took a 5th-grade overnighter here and was great. They got to go on hikes and do some bonding. If I heard right, it's like a bed and breakfast also. The area we stayed in had bunk rooms for the boys and for the girls. There are other rooms for adults that just want to come up and stay there. The food was great and all the staff from who all work there to the guides who gave the tours also the person who brought the birds of prey to show the students and to all the park rangers on and off site who checked on us and made sure we were safe. Read moreLocated just a stones throw from Pueblo (30 minutes toward the mountains in a town called Beulah) this park is an absolute Gem. There are about 8 miles of distinctive trails to be found here, as well as some facilities like the Horseshoe lodge, camping lots, the ball park, pond, and archery field. Most of which was built between 1919-1937 by early agreements with the city and eventually the New Deal's CCC. So when you are driving in or walking around and you see cobblestone walls or some of the old buildings know you are almost looking 100 years into the past.

Read moreThis is a little bit of hidden gem. We found the hike to the fire tower in a book of hike my mom has, and while visiting her in CO, we went up to this park. She hadn't been to this one, either, even though she's lived in the area for a few years.
The hike up to the fire tower is a nice, short hike that goes through a few types of terrain and switchbacks along the mountain until you reach the top. There's a tower up there built out of wood that you can climb and see all the way back to Lake Pueblo Reservoir.
There are several more hikes in this park which I didn't get to try. It looks like a nice place to have a picnic, with lots of tables underneath tall pines...
