This is a beautiful little town. It even had it's own firestation. The shop owners are nice and each little home and business is cottage like with fireplaces. There is a free ice skating rink that is staffed by the town residents, including a little book swap. You can get souvenirs and directions while even finding a hidden Detroit style pizza shop. Stopped by here when we were driving by, took a look at those ovens. Not all that much to see but it was cool seeing a small piece of history. I was hoping there was more informational plaques but there really was just 1 despite how long the landmark was, so families had to take turns reading it. Otherwise it was an OK place to stop by and stretch...

We got out and looked around. There was construction on the road and there was no literature to read about the history. The plaque has been removed. I know it must have been a thriving part of the community at one point. I wish we knew what, when, why & how this became extinct...

What a cool, off the beaten trail piece of history! If you are taking the leisurely way through the mountains, stop and take a look and read a little history about the coal mines here.
