Quarry Trails Metro Park in Dublin, Ohio, offers a beautiful outdoor experience with several accessible features, making it a fair choice for those with challenges.
Upon arrival, we found a wheelchair-accessible entrance, which was a great start. The park has ramps in some areas, allowing easier navigation for wheelchair users. There are plenty of rest areas, including picnic tables where you can roll in comfortably from the side. It’s an inviting space to take a break and enjoy the scenery.
One of the highlights for us was the considerable shade throughout the park, which helps manage sensory stimulation, making it a peaceful retreat. The absence of loud music or overwhelming crowds also contributes to a calming environment that my partner and I thoroughly enjoyed.
However, it’s important to note that while we were able to access many parts of the park, a lot of the trails are hilly, which can be challenging for those with disabilities. If you enter from the accessible entrance though, you can partake in enjoying the park's various landscapes. The restrooms were all portable as well, which might make it more difficult to use the facility as a disabled person.
While the waterfall area was inaccessible (which we checked out briefly), we appreciated that many other scenic spots were reachable. I’ll be sharing some photos of our favorite views to highlight the most visited areas of the park.
Overall, Quarry Trails Metro Park is a lovely destination, and with a few more accessible trails, it could easily be a perfect spot for everyone to enjoy. Definitely worth a visit if you’re...
Read moreI come from a family if trespassers, and in the early 90s my dad would casually park on the side of Dublin road and we'd scurry down rarely used trails into the quarry to see the waterfall. At the time, the waterfall was adorned with two abandoned cars at the bottom, leading me to always wonder how and why they got there. Now, I wonder where have they gone. But like any good and noble trespassers, we had rules that governed our visits. Namely that we wouldn't leave the wooded area around the falls and go into the active quarry where discovery would be more likely. Now that the quarry is a metro park I've been able to see the rest of the site and it is as spectacular as anticipated.
We went the first weekend it was open so parking was terrible and ended up walking a LOT longer than I would have liked with two young kids. This is particularly tough once they both fell into the stream and we had to hike back.
Columbus seems to quickly forget its history in its hurry to develop and I hope there will be some information that talks about the Italian community of San Margarita and...
Read moreThe trails are still in progress so will review again in a few years. Best way to feel like you are high up in central Ohio is to dig a hole! Where other metro trails feel like an escape to nature. This feels a bit like a study in man's attack on it. I look forward to the years claiming it back. Limited parking so far. But that should improve. Staff is out and welcoming. Too muddy for stroller on most of the trail. If you mountain bike. The runs look epic and hight over the pit will get your blood pumping. There are hidden old dumping in the woods and a 1800's cemetery long neglected. I've added stone pictures in hopes of protecting them in some way for the records as more people explore I fear further neglect. If you have small kids who don't listen. Not the best walk. There are a few spots where if you wonder off the trail not permitted there would be no second chances. Just a long drop and a fast stop. I didn't make it to the waterfall or kayaking area but have high hopes for this part of the park . Still early in the parks life. Exciting to be there at...
