Colusa National Wildlife Refuge — Attraction in Colusa

If anything, it's a bit on the small side. Out of car viewing is limited to one platform and a trail, both of which look into the same area.

There is also a driving circuit which makes for pretty views but you can leave the car and there are only a couple places you can stop and not block traffic.

That said the platform has good views, on my visit mostly full of ducks and geese. We didn't take the trail - which is paved - on account of my physical limitations along with the advice of a birder.

All-in-all it's not a bad place to practice photography as it's not too crowded but I'd like to visit one of the other sanctuaries next time...

Mid November through January is when you want to visit this sanctuary. This is one of the several resting spots for the Pacific flyway where birds migrate North and South and rest here to get stronger for the next leg of the trip. It is simply amazing the number of birds this time of the year. This is a drive through sanctuary and in most of the park you're not allowed to get out and walk. this Refuge supports wintering populations of more than 200,000 ducks and 50,000 geese.
