Visiting Mom in NH is a grand occasion for a quintessential autumnal activity, and a Google search in hopes of my fantasy led us to a little pumpkin stand, Marshall's, which itself warrants a holler — cool little gourd locus, and Josh was a cool guy who pointed us in the direction of Apple Hill, which Google did not. Apple Hill was an exact correlate to my hopes, even better than I'd hoped: 30 acres, 4000 trees; terrific Macouns off the branch; best of all was the treat of chatting with Chuck, the fella who bought this place with his wife Diane in '78 and planted every one of its trees.
