This was our 1st time experiencing Jason's Woods. We didn't even know anything about this place until we happened to see a billboard on our way somewhere. Okay. Details about this place.
I'm a hard person to scare. Let's get that out of the way. I watch horror movies like Rom - Coms. 😄😄😄 This place got me to lean back a couple of times but no screams. They only got that because they caught me off guard.
It is very dark in parts of this place and lighting of any kind like flashlights or camera phone flashes is strictly prohibited. This is kind of messed up because there are areas where I almost twisted my ankle because I couldn't see where I was stepping. Running inside the attractions is prohibited. As a natural Flight or Fight response is to run when frightened or to defend oneself. In this place the actors can touch you but you can't touch them. This adds to the terror experience for the people who are easily scared.
I loved the makeup of the actors. Many of them have great talent and I was amused. I have always been a huge fan of Freddy Krueger of the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise and Jason Voorhees of the Friday the 13th franchise. These characters were there. The actors did an absolutely spectacular job! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Freddy even creeped me out when he kneeled in front of me with the eye contact and looming glare. I said aloud, "Okay then Freddy. I see you," and I chuckled to myself because it was awesome! I immediately took out my phone to text my sister to let her know that her, my brother-in-law, and nephew were missing some super fantastic fun!! ☺️☺️☺️
The Carnival of Fear would scare the holy bananas out of my friends who are terrified of clowns. I loved it!! 🥰🥰🥰 all of the details, the artwork, the creepy looking clowns, the maze you had to go through, and the setup of the rooms. Just all of it was a winner for me. I'm sitting here smiling while writing this review. I think I made friends with the psycho clown at the end. 😄😄😄 She asked me, "Wanna be my friend?" I said, "Heck yeah!" She laughed and said, "But I'm kinda crazy though." I said, "Me too" and we laughed. 😂😂😂
The playground was tight!! I loved how the actors stood completely still to make it hard for you to tell if they're real or not. When you least expect it they make subtle movements to play mind games with you to make you think, "Did that thing just move? Nah, I'm tripping." 😄😄😄 It's like being in your own Live Psychological Thriller.
No flash photography or videos. It is restricted. However, I really wish that they would reconsider this and here's why. For those people that are experiencing this for the 1st time or 50th time and bringing friends to have their 1st experience, if people are allowed to take videos of themselves reacting to the entertainment, it would increase customers frequency based on the fact that the customer will share it on their social media. Word of mouth is still the best advertisement and if people can show they've had a great experience then the work is being done for Jason's Woods.
I can now say that I've been to both Jason's Woods and Field of Screams. I'll do them both again, however, between the two of them I personally enjoyed Jason's Woods more.
I'm in awe and in love with the Zombie Slayer. When it's time, I'll be coming for that. 😄😄😄
The DJ was rocking! OMG! That old saying, "Dance like nobody's watching," it happened that night because the DJ was that good.
All in all, I highly recommend Jason's Woods. 5...
Read moreI'm not usually one to write a review of somewhere but never have I had a more underwhelming time at a Halloween attraction than at Jason's Woods.
If you've been to Shocktoberfest, Field of Screams, or Pennhurst Asylum then you know the quality of haunted attractions in the area and a little of what to expect. Jason's Woods had almost none of that. 80% of the mazes were just pitch dark zig-zags to try and make use of the tiny space. The "zombie apocalypse" maze didn't have a single actor playing a zombie. At least, not that I could tell, because the actors were barely in costume or in character. When the maze wasn't dark, there was barely anything to look at anyway. I had no sense of a storyline, a theme, or where we were in the "world" of the maze. Chamber of Horrors, which was supposed to be a haunted house I guess, suffered the same problem. There was an entrance foyer, then about 5 minutes of stumbling around in darkness. Then, a "play room" with two actresses singing ring around the rosie. Then, another 2 minutes of pitch dark and bumping into walls. Then a guy in a "shed" with a shotgun. More darkness. Then it's over.
The Carnival maze didn't suffer from the dark hallway issue, but it also didn't have, oh, I don't know.... music? Sound effects? They had the same actors scaring you at multiple spots, because the maze wraps around so close to itself, so they save money (I guess) by having one guy in the middle of two corridors.
The "Lost in Jason's Woods" haunted trail was a JOKE. There were so few actors, again, we spent most of our time in awkward silence. There was a point where there was a girl on the ground and there was a guy SUPPOSED to be eating her body, on top of her. Except neither of them made any noise, and the girl didn't really move much except for her legs. So, we really, really thought we found some teenagers about to have sex in the woods.
The Hayride did, to be fair, have some cool motion effects, the wagon shifting on a large platform based on what was happening in the show scenes. However, this was also criminally understaffed. At multiple points, I'm pretty sure actors were supposed to come out and get on the wagon with us, but they just... didn't. At one point there was a spider woman commanding "go, my children, feed on them!" And nothing happened. Also, for some reason, Micheal Myers shows up TWICE as a filler for between scenes. One of the "scenes" is just a trailer for Texas Chainsaw Massacre before the door slides open and Leatherface comes out. The actor for Leatherface was poorly cast and did not fit the body type at ALL. finally, we come to Camp Crystal Lake. Oh boy, Jason! And Jason's Woods! Right? Nope. Freddy Kreuger comes out first. THEN Jason shows up. They walk around the wagon for a bit and then it pulls away. Naturally, just about everyone was expecting them to fight each other, since I guess they were trying to make the scene like Freddy vs Jason. The two don't even interact with each other because obviously Jason doesn't speak, and Freddy didn't have any lines. Freddy Kreuger, one of the most iconically vocal horror movie villains of all time didn't say a WORD.
Here's a tip: not being on the same level as the local competition is fine, but pricing needs to reflect that. The price was comparable with Field of Screams but the quality of the "sets", actors, and everything else absolutely was not there. AVOID this place...
Read moreMyself and my two daughters 👩👧👧decided we would revisit Jason’s woods Saturday October 9th 2021. I came to Jason’s Woods many years ago and it was pretty good. We purchased our tickets 🎟online because website mentioned cash only for in person ticket purchase. We purchased 3 VIP grand slam tickets which was for all 5 attractions. They did have two more things there I believe and one of them was escape room which you have to purchase separately but we didn’t do those. So we purchased VIP because it was only $10 more ($50) from the regular 5 attraction tickets which were $40. Well no brainer for us since it was a Saturday night we would be going . When you buy online you would think it would be easier for the process to get in , right? WRONG!! Same thing as purchasing in person. UGH!! So we arrived at location which driving down those dark unlit roads didn’t even have signs to tell you this way to Jason’s woods or that way …. But we found it thank goodness because I wouldn’t wanna be stranded on those roads in the dark… I’m sure the cows would keep us safe lol. Anyway. Parking is free which they had people directing us where to park. We parked and started walking towards entrance which time as we approached was 7:40pm🕢 (their opening time was 7pm that night). Holy Cow Was it packed!👀…..there was three lines filled with so many people .omg! I said to my daughters,”this can’t be where we wait because we already purchased our tickets”… well I asked a lady at entrance standing there with walklie talkie and she said yes , you have to wait in one of these lines to get your tickets … lol I said ok.. I couldn’t believe they didn’t have a separate line for online purchased tickets . So we waited maybe a total of twenty minutes…. They scanned our mobile tickets to give us card tickets that had five attractions on it to be marked as we do one . Finally, we get to start. We started off with hayride first since that’s always a popular pick with everything. Man was lines long … we waited in line for 30 min but VIP line was just as packed as standard line and we didn’t go any faster than their line. So what they did to get people on tractor is they put half VIP people and half standard people on a tractor 🤨. Whatever! After we sat we heard the rules from this skeleton (one which no Photography with flash can be used) then we were off. NOTE: Mask isn’t required or asked by anyone but if you feel uncomfortable being so close to someone especially in lines or tractor which they pack you in , wear a mask…we did and some others too….I’ll sum it up to it was neat the hayride with the actors trying their best to scare people but this ride wasn’t as good as years ago as I remember. All other attractions fell little short of the scare but they tried …. The backgrounds and props used were cool though…that’s about it … Covid kinda messed things up with the lack of actors and entertainment outside of attractions to keep people entertained during waiting… a solid 3 star I rate… Happy...
