2am delivery of Kraft (Maxwell House coffee) on Friday, 7/20/2018 transpired as follows: I arrived about 12:45am and got in the only green lighted line behind 5 other trucks to check in at the guard gate. The young lady there was quite nice, by the way. When it was my turn I pulled up and shut the truck off, handing her the BOLs. She did some computer work to check me in by reference number, placed a GPS tracker on the trailer, and had me pull up to the "arm" so I could walk back, open the doors so she could see the load was upright, then handed me my BOLs and a site map, directing me to park in the "live staging" area and then walk my paperwork around the corner and up the stairs to man door 201 (says Lumper Office). I checked in with a very pleasant lady about 1:15am and she took my BOLs and had me go wait in my truck. Not very long afterwards, a pretty cool yard dog driver pulled up and instructed me which door to go back into, disconnect and pull forward from. He said wait in the truck, we'll come tell you when you can hook up, go back to live staging, park, and walk to the office for your paperwork. I was in the door before 1:45am for my 2am appointment. It's a cool, dry night, without wind, rain or any harsh conditions, and there's at least 25 or more trucks in various stages of the process that I can see. Hopefully that gives you an idea what time you should arrive for your appointment. Update 3:10am I was empty.
Update Picked up a load yesterday at this location. Pulled up to one of 3 green lighted lanes a little over an hour from my appointment, checked in, got the roof tracker, parked in live staging, yard man came and told me dock 31, backed in, disconnected, loaded, yard dog returned, connected, pulled out, got seal from back, closed doors, pulled up and parked in circular lot just past right turn to exit loop, walked to transportation WITH MY PICKUP NUMBER, waited my turn, entered the number, signed electronically, received bols, walked to truck, back to truck exit road, handed bols and seal to guard, tracker removed, received bols, pulled forward, he sealed it, and I left. Back to exit 28 on i83 and on to...
Read moreI've been waiting and backed in since Labor Day. (September 5th, 2016). It's now November 8th, 2016 (election day). I haven't seen my family in over 2 months. I missed Halloween with my kids because they're still unloading my truck. The guards have been giving me bread and water to survive. Occasionally, they let me watch TV with them in the guard house. They are nice enough to let me use their bathroom. I'm hoping to be home before Thanksgiving. The guard said Christmas is more likely. I just want to go home.......
Update....11/30/16.....still waiting. Missed Thanksgiving with my family. The guards were nice enough to bring in some leftovers from their Thanksgiving. I also received an electric razor from one of the guys in the warehouse so I could shave. Another guard had his wife stop in on her lunch break to give me a haircut. I don't look as homeless as I used to look. My fingers are still crossed that I make it home for Christmas. I knew I should have joined the military. I was thinking of writing a letter to Richard B. Cohen....you know, the guy who owns C&S and is worth $11 BILLION dollars. Yes, billion...not million. Maybe he could make a phone call to get someone to unload my truck.......
Update....5/14/17...Mother's Day. The guards surprised me today by picking up my mom and bringing her to see me. She told me wife ran away with a guy who works at Supervalu and my kids now call him daddy. The battery in my truck died. The lady who cut my hair used a dirty comb and I've been battling head lice since November. Everyone looks at me like I'm a homeless guy living out of an abandoned truck. At least the weather's getting warm. I should have never dropped that...
Read moreNo C&S warehouse is really amazing, this one is no exception. The line getting into the facility can get pretty long at times, show up early, allow yourself at least an extra 15-20 min to get through the guards and into the facility. You then have to park in live staging and walk a 1/4 mile (might be a slight exaggeration) into the shipping and receiving office, I personally don't mind the walk. (good exercise) The people in shipping and receiving are not all that friendly, but I'm pretty sure they deal with pi**ed off drivers all day, I wouldn't be friendly at that point either. Whether your there for a load or unload, you can bank on being here for at least 4-6 hours. The physical unload process usually doesn't take that long, getting your paperwork after the unload is the part that takes forever, they are very slow at sorting and counting. After unloading, you have to park back in staging, walk to the office again and give them your phone number, if your paperwork isn't done(which it probably isn't) Upside is, you can definitely get away with parking for a few extra hours if you need to, I've done it a few times. There are so many trucks, they can't keep track of them all. One thing I hate about this place is how dirty it is, trash all through the parking lot, the drivers lounge/restroom area is disgusting! I wish they would clean it up a little bit, but if majority of drivers weren't filthy, and actually cleaned up after themselves, it probably wouldn't be so bad either. Summary: know that they are slow and dirty, have patience, look forward to the...
