We stayed here for 5 nights after Christmas through New Years. While we were here it was very cold, unseasonably for the area. We had deer walk right up to our campsite daily, we biked miles and miles all over the park, we visited Striplings general store just off site and it’s incredible! My son found 6 geocaches on the park property, which he thought was the best part. We visited the museum and all the military equipment, we played disc golf and did a lot of relaxing at our camp. We cooked over the fire and all our campsite neighbors were so friendly. Our dog especially loved this trip! While we loved our campsite accommodations, the closest bathroom, comfort station 3, was not the best option. We used it for showers the first 2 nights and let me tell you it is very warm, which was super nice because it was in the 30s. Then the 3rd night there was no hot water. We roughed it through the cold showers in 30 degree weather bc at least the bathrooms were warm. The next day we decided to check the hot water and learning it was still not working, we walked to comfort station 2. Wow! The lady who keeps that one clean…is doing an amazing job! It was only after seeing her work that we realized ours was definitely lacking. She keeps the toilets clean including under the toilet seats, keeps the floors and showers free from grass and dirt all day long. Comfort station 3 the older gentleman never once cleaned either of those things. He would clean the toilets and empty the “feminine products” baskets all day. But after he cleaned the toilet he would leave the seat in the up position, and you could see all the disgusting things underneath it that weren’t being cleaned. And why leave a woman’s toilet seat up anyway? If it had been down I wouldn’t have known. Also I had to take a cup and fill it before each shower and clean all the dirt and grass out so I wasn’t standing in it while showering. In the men’s bathroom the toilet was broken and my sons and husband had to fix the flushing handle spring by removing the back of the toilet and repositioning it everytime they used the bathroom. In comfort station 2 - wow grass was never an issue in the bathroom. Anyway, this park is beautiful and there are so many things to do and explore. Also comfort station 1 & 3 both have a free washer and dryer you can use. Which I LOVED!! We will definitely stay here again. Note: we did report the hot water not working and by the last day we were there they had signs up stating “no hot water” and we noticed the maintenance guy working on it. We didn’t complain about the bathroom cleanliness or the broken toilet - bc we have stayed at campgrounds with so much worse. It was only after comparing the two at the same park that we realized it could be done better. We also didn’t realize the cleaning people stayed on property mere feet from the facilities and were supposed to...

I arrived at Lake Blackshear visitor center on July 19 to check into a site that I had booked on May 28 of this year. When I gave the front staff my name, I was advised there was no reservation under that name. I showed the staff member my confirmation email that showed my reservation for the specific site and date. I was told that my reservation had been lost due to the center switching to a new system, and that my reservation and site that I had picked out had been given to a different person who had booked after me. This was an issue for several reasons the first being that I booked that specific site so that I would be Near several of my friends and coworkers as that was our annual camping trip . The next reason was an issue because the site I originally picked was on the water and the one they had available was not. I was told my options were to either take the campsite that was further away from my group that I was camping with and not on the water or I could put my tent on one of my coworkers sites that had an RV so that I could share their space. Because I did not want to set up all my things on someone else’s site and didn’t feel that would be fair to them. I opted to take the site that was further away, which created issues when walking with my children down to the water and to be able to do lunches and dinners with my friends and coworkers. I was extremely disappointed with my reservation being lost as it made it more difficult to enjoy our annual camping trip. I will say the grounds were kept nice and the staff members were polite. However, the whole situation was frustrating and my husband and I ended up only staying for one of the nights that we booked before going home. I would like to recommend camping here because the area itself and the amenities were nice. It’s hard to do that recommendation when I don’t know if others would find themselves in the same situation as we were driving over an hour to get to a reservation that had...

(November, 2018) Beautiful place. Friendly staff. QUIET!!! Hurricane hit pretty hard but they are working on getting debri cleaned up. Met many wonderful VOLUNTEERS who are assisting with the clean-up. Thank you to those who are donating time, money, and labor. Toured the surrounding area and home owners are still cleaning up, too. For those who have never encountered a hurricane, it can takes months (sometimes years) to recover. Cordele was hit hard economically due to the amount of pecan farms in the area. I highly recommend Georgia Veterans State Park.

2nd review (March 23, 2019) - stayed at campground for a week this time - on loop 3. Thomas and Laura (campground hosts) were the best! Hubby and I can't believe these two retirees put in 35 hours a week (or more). The park is stunning, with lots to do. We rode our bicycles each day, took walks, hubby rode his roller blades, we played archery (rent equipment from the office), went sightseeing, and I took several naps out in the warm sun. Each day we'd go over to the lake to watch the sun go down. There are deer everywhere. Discovered Striplings General Store, which is outside the main gate, and stopped going in to town for groceries. Striplings had just about anything you might need. Can't wait for my next vacation so that we can go back. 3rd Review. Stayed at campground again for Christmas week. So nice and quiet - just peaceful. For the most part, the loop had 3-4 campers - so, it was like having the whole place to ourselves. Lol Got to see Thomas and Laura again, which was nice (they're amazing volunteers,). Different sightseeing places this time. There were so many deer everywhere! Hubby and I took an evening drive around the entire park each night just to hear nature and see the 🦌...

Love camping and fishing at this park. October they are doing the haunted trail. Stop by and go in. Beautiful sun sets every day we were there. Our group camped at site 29 and 30. The campground is pet friendly. Price went up to 55 a night. It's a little high to me because its not full hook ups like most campgrounds have now for cheaper price. They do have cable hook up. The sites were very clean when we got there. Had a great time fishing from the boat. Enjoyed the boat ride to see the lake. Cold front came in and it got a little cold at night but made it better by the fire and no bugs around. Guess they didn't like the cold weather so that was a plus for us. You can buy firewood from the campground host or go out of the park and buy firewood from the gas stations or the bait shop. Go in the bait shop and check them out. Behind one of the gas stations is a liquor store. Stop by get some fresh boiled peanuts from the lady in front of one of the gas stations. Yummy! The one gas station has great meat in there. Cut fresh for you! Big plus if you already paid up front before coming to the campground you can go ahead and drive on to your camp site. Your tag is on the pole waiting for you if you made reservations ahead of time. If not have to stop in the DNR office and get them. Stop by there do some shopping and check out the Museum on outside and inside the office. Kids will enjoy that and you too! Plenty of deer walking around the grounds. We watched a mom and 3 of her babies eat and walk across to go get water from the lake shore. Squirrels will get into anything left outside. So what them. Left a bag of chips (unopened) on the table and they chewed a hole and helped themselves to the chips.
