Not a bad place for an afternoon walk/cycling in a hot summer day.. We visited at the end of a cloudy July weekend for a hope of watching birds but all we see is seagull. We definitely heard chirping of a few birds but were not fortunate to see any within our short stay. People say there are a lot of sandpipers but we weren’t lucky. Coming to the beach, It’s a flat beach but saw no coastguard. Won’t recommend for bath. As we saw not proper washroom as well. At least where we parked. The beach-view however is good. You will see a lighthouse in the other side (probably that side is Long Island). Have seen people fishing but dint see their luck of getting one though.. Note - No proper washroom. No free parking. Please find the sign and scan barcode to pay.

I grew up here and have spent many times on the "sand bar" as we called it. It has become a great place to walk, reflect, fish, or birdwatch. Because of Sandy Point's location, it is a natural collector of unnatural things that wash ashore from the Harbor and Sound, and from outright littering. I have made it a point when I visit from Boston now to pick up some trash on each walk I make that has washed ashore or was left behind. Maybe you will join me? It will help keep this place clean and natural.

Beautiful isolated beach close to New Haven with a nice variety of birds and a little solitude as there are the fewest people you’re going to see on a beach in warm weather. The flip side is that it’s hard to reach, as all the roads leading to it seem to be closed within 1/4 mile as of the second week of June. Be prepared to walk 3/4 of a mile up beach to where the sanctuary begins from the spots in West Haven where it’s legal to park on the street if you aren’t a resident.

Don't even bother coming here unless you live in the area. I was coming from out of town and there was no place to park. All the lots in the area are for residents only with people manning the entrances to the lots looking for proof. All the streets are resident only parking as well! This is a BIRD SANCTUARY for god's sake not a public beach. People are going here alone typically to view and photograph birds with plenty of social distance. There were 2 cars in the lot when i tried to visit. You have got to be kidding me with this disgusting WHITE privilege of this community to block out anyone else from viewing birds in this location. GET...

Very good spot for looking at shorebirds, piping plovers especially. However, parking is annoying and may cost for non residents (outside of West Haven). The area does apparently allow waterfowl hunting within CT hunting regulations which is less fun to see if you’re there for the birds. Needs more enforcement and more signs stating the “no dogs allowed” restriction during nesting season; on multiple occasions I’ve seen disrespectful visitors allow their unleashed dogs to literally chase endangered species off the shore without any...
