We had a blast last weekend in Big Bear and saved a ton of money by swapping out some of the more well known activities (boating, zoo, and restaurants) with cheaper alternatives. Here are some recommendations if you are looking to do a similar trip on a budget! 1) Instead of the Big Bear Zoo we did… @bigbeardiscoverycenter! It is free to enter and has interactive activities, guided nature walks, and a nature themed playground. Even though it is free to enter, please leave a donation if you can to support their work! My kids spent almost 2 hours there and had so much fun. The center is open Thursday-Monday from 9am-4pm. It is located at 40971 North Shore Drive/Hwy 38, Fawnskin CA 92333 2) Instead of renting a boat, we took a hike on…Stanfield Marsh Boardwalk! This is an easy 1.6 hike that has multiple bridges crossing the preserves wetlands. It is stroller friendly but lacking shade. Bring hats and sunscreen! Location: 42300 Big Bear Boulevard 3) We saved a lot of money by bringing food for meals in a cooler and cooking at @sageandrosecabin l. We only went out for coffee and a treat at the beginning of each day. Our coffee shop of choice was @moonridgecoffeeco, but there are several good ones around town. Ultimately, we spent less than $30 on eating out and activities for the entire weekend. It is good to remember sometimes that fun vacations exist for all budgets.

A cool quick little educational stop for all ages! staff was friendly and tell you random facts and answered any questions you have!
This was a nice little spot to learn about the habitat around Big Bear Lake. The workers were cheerful. Wish we had more time to visit. I definitely want to go back again. Thank You!
Loved the outdoor stage and the fresh air! Danced half the night away! Such good music n entertainment
Free access to any visitor, has a small section of animals native to California and a video you can watch. The people there are very knowledgeable of trails and places to visit if you are into hiking and more outdoor places to visit.
