This place is a dump. It was just recently purchased by new owners but I am not hopeful. Some issues:
Zamboni stopping in middle of cleaning, leaving huge patch of snow around center ice. Luckily, the Zamboni driver let us borrow some shovels so we could act like the ice crew locker rooms are so incredibly beat down. The benches have nails sticking out of them, they are small, you will get splinters, the wood is rotting, and bends when you sit on them. late starts all the time - our 10:50 PM game started at 11:20 - that is totally unacceptable. On time starts have rarely happened. groups don't clean up after themselves - the other groups that you share the ice sometimes don't pick up after themselves. There are always tires, giant pads, chairs, and other things left on the benches. rinks are beaten down - the benches are bent, the doors are all mostly broken, the boards are falling apart. If you shoot a puck into the net, it is not coming back because the nets are not tied to the boards. loss of parking - the street that you used to be able to park on was paved and "No Parking" signs were plastered on it. It is going to be very cluttered when tournaments are here if they don't fix the parking winter men's league - less games and more money. The new owners are just jacking the prices up on everything to try and turn this place into something that...
Read moreThe ice is great with wooden seating 10-12 ft above the rink with no glass or nets. The lobby is small. Parking is tight, but the heaters work! However this place has the saddest snack shop, perhaps the worst in DuPage County. Please get it together and even make a few bucks selling lattes and hot dogs, Center Ice.. but hey maybe it doesn’t matter because a bit down the road is Schnitzel Platz!!!
You cant miss it when you drive past it on your way to the rink. It’s been around for 27ish years and is a beer hall / restaurant serving 1 liter German Lagers! The best lagers anywhere!!
Come hungry or ready to share. There are great apps: potato pancakes, pretzels with beer cheese, and fried saurkraut balls!!! Don’t pass on the saurkraut balls or potato pancakes.
Obviously yer gonna order a schnitzel ( a breaded pork fried with lots of variations) I got the Gordon Bleau. Order a cup of Gulash soup with your entree.
If yer lucky you will feel the vibe and sounds of the live accordian player and transport yourself to the old world.
There are also slot machines. Which shows ya how authenticly suburban...
Read moreHad a great experience taking lessons here for my toddler - the instructors have been so good with coaxing him to a place of greater confidence on the ice, and they have assistants who provide the younger kids some 1-on-1 support when needed. However, public skate on Friday night was a ripoff. It is advertised as a "cosmic skate," but I'm not sure what that means. $15 per person and they did not resurface the ice after the previous group finished. At least they only charged my toddler $10! I understand that they must be under financial pressures like everyone else these days, but I can't imagine it would break the bank to resurface the ice for paying customers. The facility really could use some...
