Thought I'd give a little different review from a winters point of view...Pics are at Folsom lake @ Granite Bay boat launch (multiple launch areas depending on water level). Folsom lake is awsome in summer for boating and water toys. Horse area for unloading and loading and lots of horse trails. Trails for biking, hiking and walking your dogs. Probably the go to for boat launching in summer with so much room. There are beaches to the East and picnic spots to the east that most people probably don't drive farther in to see Today 12/28/20 I took the dogs out as the water level was lowest I've seen personally. You can drive down but I came to walk so parked at upper boat launch and ended up almost in the middle of the lake..lol..again attached pics are current look as of this date.. Awsome to walk it instead of being in a boat Blue dot in the google maps pic shows how far out we had to walk out to get to waters edge..the rocks one of my dogs is standing on is a pile of old blasted out granite when the lake was built and obviously usually under a lot of water P.s Quick tip; state park pass for a year $125, Good at most "State" parks including Folsom lake. Folsom $12 a day normally.. Has saved me a ton of money in long run for a years worth of recreation

I have mixed feelings about this place. 5 stars for one of the cleanest parks I've ever been to. Was there in July ...and only dry brown grass everywhere. Maybe that's why there was NO ONE else ANYWHERE! Long winding road took 30 minutes (while driving as fast as the road would allow) ...and even tho it was 4:30 they charged me the whole $12.00 fee. Brought KFC to eat for dinner and had to feed the meat- eating bees so they would let us eat in peace. NONE of that was the problem. It was the fact that the rockhounding book I have said that there were agates there and after arriving I found that they were on the camping side ($33.00) of the park ...and when I went to investigate the road to that area it had a sign that said "no unauthorized vehicles"! Super frustrating, especially for my DD daughter that was looking forward to hunting for agates. Found some quartz pieces laying here and there to try to satisfy her; sorry the road was so twisty she threw up on the way out! (My fault there... trying to beat the sunset :( ). Got some nice pics tho lol. All in all a sweet park with a HUGE lake and in the spring when it's greener would maybe be a nice camping place? I don't know, that drive down in there was hellish...

Review of space 62 Beals Point Campground Folsom Lake State Recreation Area. The pros; campground is very clean and this loop has utility hookups. The cons; space 62 sits right next to (Maybe 50 yards from) Folsom-Auburn boulevard which is a busy high speed 4 lane road. It is located by the pink line on the first photo which is the campground map. The road noise was horrific and continued pretty much 24/7. We could not enjoy sitting outside the noise was so bad. Space 62 also has absolutely no shade so this spot just baked in the afternoon sun. I would never stay in space 62 again. We tried to move to a different space - even though some were vacant, the gate attendant could not help us. Other spaces like 64 and 66 are a little further away from the road and have ample afternoon shade. The lake is very low as of June 2021 - not sure what water will be left by fall. Overall, space 62 should be avoided.

Excellent place to go for a walk, a run, or a bike ride. The amount of trails and beauty around is endless. The lake view is gorgeous. All the native plants and flowers were unbelievable. We just went on a bike ride in mid-April, and all the flowers blooming were incredible to see. There are areas around the lake where you can park your car and have a picnic with your family and friends. There are bathrooms, bbqs, tables, grass areas, and people fishing. The amount of fun you can have outside in this place is countless. Go outside and have some fun, but please clean after yourself and help preserve this place to others. Also, respect wildlife. We saw a rattlesnake crossing a bike path going towards the lake, probably to drink some water. There are all kinds of critters out there. Just be kind and respectful, and we all keep on happy and moving on with our lives.

If you bring your own kayaks or paddle boards, go to the northern lake Natomas boat ramp area. I'd recommend driving down to the boat ramp, unloading your items, leave one person to get everything ready to hit the water, the other person parks the vehicle in the parking lot and walks down to the boat ramp area. If you would like to rent kayaks and paddle boards, park in the Folsom lake State recreation area. The recreation area is equipped with bathrooms and a small Beach. This is a popular, fun place to paddle board and kayak. There is a bald eagle's nest that can be viewed from above the water or from the bike trail. There is also a nice paved bike trail, that is accessible from the recreation area. This would be a great date spot, if both people enjoyed kayaking, bike riding or paddle board. IG: SACRAMENTOHONEY

It’s been awhile since I’ve been to this park, so I was pleasantly surprised at the updates to the beach area. Nice covered picnic tables with BBQ’s, two party pavilions, and 4 bathrooms with flushing toilets. There’s two sets of wide stairs and a ramp down to the beach and plenty of trash cans. Unfortunately only two drinking fountains so if you need water for cooking bring it with you. There’s a boat ramp on the other side of the park if your up for a paddle. Unfortunately there isn’t one at the beach. That would be nice since the other ramp gets busy on weekdays. I can only imagine what a mess it is in weekends. Overall a nice park located on the America River, which is beautiful and worth the visit.
