Stunning geological feature like a mini Yellowstone in the desert. Ample parking plus toilet available. There’s a good view from the parking lot. There’s also a 6 minute path that takes you closer to the action. Warning: do not attempt to go in or cross the river. ⛔️ There are parts of the river that are scalding hot and will cause severe burns. Ground is also unstable. I saw a family with children crossing the river and trying to touch the blue pools. Everybody was screaming but they wouldn’t listen. Do not do this. The warning ⚠️ signs from the forest service are there for a good reason.

Hot Creek Geologic Site was absolutely stunning! The views are magnificent, and the unique geothermal features are a sight to see. The area is very accessible and easy to explore, with well-marked paths and plenty of spots for photos. It’s a pleasant visit for all ages, and the natural beauty of the area makes it worth every minute. Highly recommend for anyone in the area looking for a scenic and relaxing outing!

The west side of the Hot Creek springs allows you to get down to the main pools of the geological area. The trails to get here will require an offroad vehicle as there is no main road. There is no parking area so if going in a group you will need to be creative to fit in everyone. To get to the springs you will need to hike down a hill so those who are not that mobile will need to take care as it is rather steep.

Due to the snow we had to hike in the last 1.5 miles or so. Half gravel, half snow covered road but not bad. Springs are worth the trek but the infrastructure at the whole location seems abandoned and falling apart (signs falling down, washed out steps and walkways, faded everything) Beauty of the site is what matters. Most prominent pool is on opposite side of the creek but there’s are springs on both sides.

You can drive in but at some point you will have to walk in snow. The sign says 1 1/2 miles but it is about 2 1/2 miles to the bathroom area and you won't be able to hike down to hot creek. Was worth it but make sure you have proper shoes. Snow was 2 ft in some areas.
