Oh honey, this is not for the weak. The walk to the dome is a high inclined. There are benches to take breaks. Take your time bring water. It is cold at first, but by the time u get to the foot of the dome, u have warm up. So wear layers. Once u get to the foot of the dome, it's an inclined but not so steep but still inclined. Give yourself time, breaks, and grace to get to the top. I did not see anyone running up. For people with kids don't do the carts I saw couple off too the side the inclined makes it hard because u r dragging yourself, the cart and kids up the inclined you are better off carrying them. The view is worth the fight getting up to the top. Everyone encourages each other because everyone struggles. There are benches at the top, too. The view was a blessing to see. Going down is hard because you have to be careful how fast. If to fast very easy to fall. Faster going down I didn't need sit going down, but I took breaks. You use different parts of your back and legs going down. I did by I survived the climb shirt. For sure, make sure you go early. The parking lot fills up very quickly. We left around 11 a.m., and the parking lot was full, and there was a line waiting to get in. I got the 830 a.m., and it was a little crowd, not bad. Overall, I was so proud of myself for doing it, and you will, too. If I can do it, you can too. Oh, you need a parking...
Read moreFree to enter. No tickets required. Parking is a little hard when it's busy. You have to circle around to catch someone leaving but be patient. We almost left but circled and got a spot. You will need a parking pass but it's only $5 and it is good for all day and is good for other parks as well in addition to this park. It is a 1/2 mile somewhat steep incline walk to get to the top. There are several areas to stop and rest on the way up. It is high and the lookout is smaller than I remembered from when I was little. I heard one Mom tell her child, "feet flat on the ground" and I thought that was a smart great idea! There is a wooded trail off to the side if you would like to do a hiking trail instead of the paved walk way. There are bathrooms but it is similar to a port a potty. There is a gift shop to buy water and souvenirs. It took us a couple or three hours total for parking, seeing the top and shopping at the gift shop. A lot of people had a picnic lunch at the picnic tables while there. One thing my husband and I noticed is everyone is much nicer being in the open and in nature. We were all chatting and encouraging each other on the way up and helping each other take pictures! It was a really feel good kind of day! And we saw a bear cross the road on the way back...
Read moreQuite the drive and the hike! Fairly limited parking once you get there. Many people were parked a 1/2 mile down the road from the parking lot, and then it's another 1/4 mile hike just to get to the observation tower. We were lucky enough to snag a parking space just as someone else was leaving. Others weren't that lucky. The path is paved, which makes it nice to walk up. However, it is an extremely steep incline. My calves were on FIRE on the way up. It took my husband and I close to an hour to get to the observation tower at the top (only because we stopped A LOT). We went almost all the way to the the top of the observation tower, but there were a lot of people in there, and my husband doesn't do heights. If you don't do heights, I don't recommend going up the tower. It's an absolutely beautiful sight, and you won't be disappointed if you do! There were quite a few people with strollers and wheelchairs. I'm pretty sure I also saw signs that said those weren't allowed, and I can see why. Be mad at me if you want, but with as much of an incline as there is, it wouldn't be hard for something to get away from someone. Make sure to visit a bathroom before you go here. Vault toilets and the lines were LONG. But I would highly...
