This is a review for Lewis Clark Animal Shelter:
The shelter was awful to work with trying to adopt an animal. I have been missing my cat for a month now. I saw a cat on the shelter website that looked like my cat and wanted to go look at it. Drove out there and they were closed even though their hours said they would be open. Looked on their website and Facebook and didn’t see anything about them closing early. I went out the next day. They took me back to the back room to see the cat and the person working back there said she doesn’t remember that cat and doesn’t think she has a cat like that (there were only 4 cats back there including this one). I ended up seeing the cat myself on the bottom row on top of its cat house box backed in a corner scared. It was not my cat, much younger (less than a year old) and a female and a stray. I asked if I could adopt this cat anyways and give it a home because I felt bad for it and it looked so scared. They told me that it had to be there for 10 days then get all its vaccines and get fixed and it would be a while before it would ever be ready to adopt and that my best chances were to sign up to be a volunteer to have it until adoption is available. I asked them why I couldn’t take the cat to my own vet and pay myself for all the vet bills and for the cat to get fixed and they said they have their own vet they go through so they do it that way then people don’t have to pay. I told them again I was willing to pay for this animal and all the expenses, they refused even though they said multiple times they are short on vets and animals get on a waiting list to get seen. I left and went and signed up to be a volunteer for this kitty on their website like they told me to do. The shelter called me last week and I let them know I was still wanting to adopt the cat I previously came in and looked at. They told me that the cat was now available and I could come get her on Wednesday (tomorrow) and adopt it because it was getting fixed and would be ready by then. Again different information then when I went to shelter and they acted like it would be a long time before the cat would be available. I let them know I would be there Wednesday to get the cat. They called me today and told me they ended up putting the cat to sleep for best interest of the cat. They said it had a hernia and discolored gums from not eating or drinking and they were not going to fix it so they decided it was best to put cat to sleep. I told them I wanted to take it to my own vet and I would have paid for it to get the proper care it needed and that I told them all this multiple days ago and they refused. They said they always do what’s best and that was the best option. They gave up on the cat saying it wasn’t worth it to fix. They didn’t try calling until after they made their decision to let her die.
It’s so sad I tried to go out of my way to help this kitty, love this kitty, rescue this kitty and this is how the poor baby lived its last days by letting it die knowing someone wanted to save her. She sat at the shelter for 15 days before she was taken to a vet. I tried to get her and take her to vet 4 days after her being at the shelter and me seeing her on their website. The people at the shelter were not very friendly and they don’t do their best to help find homes for their animals like they say. They have so many dogs and cats but make it so hard for people to adopt them that truly want them. I tried multiple times to talk with a manager and they always had an excuse why I wasn’t able to. Animals have better chance at finding homes on facebook groups than at...
Read moreIf i could give this a zero i would. I adopted my best friend and emotional support animal here about 5 months ago and he wasnt fixed when i got him due to no sign of he testicles. 4 days ago he had his surgury and i went in today on my lunch because it was bleeding, swollen and he wasnt eating. As i walked in they were all standing around bsing and i expressed my concerns, to which thier responce was "Our vet isnt in today, you need to come in tommorow" i totally understood but my axiety was mounting so i asked is there anything i can do? Im concerned and i cant wait another day. "Well we have no vet experiance" They repeated the same responces for about 5 minutes and when my roomate who didnt know the shelter and had never been there suggested making an appointment another employee who hadnt heard any of the conversation came out of the back and barked at her "We dont take appointments!" I was hurt, confused and extremely destressed and i didnt get an ounce of respect or compation. After taking him to a differant vet they told me he was PARTALLY AWAKE DURING SURGERY!! My poor baby was feeling the pain and he was inflamed because of them! I am never returning to this shelter EVER again if i want to adopt another pet i will go out of town and out of my way...
Read moreSam scheduled me out to get my dog fixed and she was great. My schedule is all over the place so it was nice to get it planned. The day before my appointment, they were going to have to cancel for some reason, so I talked to a manager, Courtney, to try and figure it out and she was so calm, caring, friendly, and helpful. She was able to figure something out to keep Rugers appointment which was so greatly appreciated because of my crazy schedule. I’m not gonna lie, I was grumpy on the phone trying to figure it all out, but Courtney was so understanding and amazing. I called back to apologize and Ayanna was also very understanding and kind. Overall.. Sam, Courtney, and Ayanna were great and I’m so thankful they could work something out to keep my...
