Beautiful spot, especially being so close to Chicago. The maps were a little confusing, and the trails themselves felt pretty ordinary, just woods, no special landscaping, flowers, or sculptures. The waterfall is nice, but compared to others I’ve seen, it’s on the smaller side, sitting on a flat ridge that actually makes you feel taller than it. You can go into the water, which is fun, but the upkeep isn’t great. Brush and plants are growing wild into the paths in some areas, which makes it feel a bit neglected. The bigger issue, though, was safety. While we were in the water, a black or dark-colored snake was surprisingly aggressive. There were no warning signs anywhere, nothing on the information boards about local wildlife or what to watch out for. It happened toward the evening, and I couldn’t tell if it was a rat snake or a water moccasin, but either way, it was alarming. You can however find lots of edible mushrooms...

Just want to write a warning to everyone who will visit the place, today we decided to visit and it happens that the parking lot is in construction and it will be done and opened next year, so people park on a side of the road by Bluff street. There is a little hill when you come and a huge curve in the end of the street, the truck cabin that was pulling another truck cabin was speeding and was unable to turn and hit the cars that were parked on that side of the street. Please be careful, stop speeding in that spot. It was a very bad experience, the place itself is ok, to many parents with kids that are screaming, crying, instead of relaxing got anxiety after the trip....

Great place for a daytrip with the family ESPECIALLY if you have kids. The area is pet-friendly with plenty of dog dad's and mom's walking their pooch. The waterfall itself is small but that's what makes it fun for kids and gives parents a little comfort when they go into the water. Over a great place for a stroll, picnic, or just to get out of the house & away from electronics. Highly recommend, make sure you park on the parking lot off of Bluff street, after turning on Cass to get as close as possible to the waterfall. Once their, if unsure where to go, follow the crowd walking or take the trail and look out for mile markers indicating what direction to go in for the...

Beautiful area to explore but it is crazy busy on the weekends. If you can get here during the week, you will have a more enjoyable time. There is very little parking in the lot but you can park along the road before going into the preserve. If you want the full experience, wear clothes/footwear that you're okay with getting wet. There's minnows, crawfish, and frogs depending on the time of year so that's fun for the kids...and adults, who am I kidding. There are some crushed limestone paths as well some off the beaten dirt paths. Lots to explore! Enjoy!
