It would be a great park if they took better care of it. They didn't need a new bridge, they needed to clean up the place. There's no insect abatement and they had to shut down the lake last year because of E. coli from the duck and geese constantly crapping in the water. Previously, sewage from the bathrooms had been seeping into the lake, and it was shut down then, too. I haven't seen an open bathroom since. I do see a lot of dead turtles washing up on the bank, though. I don't think I'd eat a fish if I could catch one. There's also a huge wood pile right in the middle of a hill, I think it's been there for around two years and hasn't been moved or mulched. I stay away from it because it's probably full of copperheads. There used to be a volleyball court, but it's just a nasty overgrown sand pit now and it doesn't have a net anymore. A lot of the grassy areas have been dying off. My dog never had fleas or ticks before the first time we came here. And the open land is actively trying to become a swamp. Still, there's not really anywhere else to go in town, and it does have a ball diamond, a pier, a designated airfield for drones and model aircraft, and a janky disc golf course. Wear shoes you're comfortable having caked in two...
Read moreGood place for fishing, picnicking, playing ball, and playground use...but not so great for swimming. The lake is dirty. Even got sick the next day after swimming here. Dirt literally clings to your body from the water. Swimming area has been shut down numerous times for health safety issues, one time due to the bathrooms had been leaking into the swimming water. The playground is nice though. There is also a boat dock area but you have to pay to drive through. However, you can walk down to the docks and there are small wooden docks to fish from . WATCH FOR SNAKES, THIS LAKE HAS QUITE A FEW OF SNAKES. 25% OF the time you will see a snake, and about 75% OF the time there is one around you that you can't see. There is a peninsula toward the end of the park to walk out to with benches and a volleyball net on it. Lots of bird poop out there and very snakey. Across the lake from here, and with a parking area of it's own there is a larger wooden fishing dock to stand on. You can usually catch a few catfish off the smaller fishing docks. Just bring plenty of mosquito repellant and watch...
Read moreSeems every summer between Memorial day and Fourth of July this lake is shut down to high levels of bacteria in the water. The bathrooms on the first entrance is terrible and has been for years. Although the bridge is beautiful, the bathrooms and busted pipes that drain to the lake should have been top priority YEARS AGO! Although I understand that nature and high rain levels increase the bacterial levels, perhaps not having animal poop all over the beach are from irresponsible pet owners and putting in proper disposal bags for dogs would help that issue? It's terrible when I live less than a mile from a potentially beautiful park, yet prefer and pretty much mandatory to take my family elsewhere because more than half the summer the swim area is closed. Fix the issues and we'll see about a...
