Most of my days are spent in the Refuge. There are so many different areas and beautiful things to see and do. I see and read people complaining about bugs- I rarely ever have a problem with bugs ironically. In my opinion the best way to see and explore the vastness is by kayak. It is imperative to be quiet and frequent the area regularly to see new and different things. The flooding is beyond our control due to weather events and over-development thus complaining about flooded trails is misguided. Everyday I see different things that are amazing- some days you see very little animals or birds and others an amazing variety. The goal of the Refuge as a habitat for birds and an area to recreate is met perfectly. This isn't Yellowstone Park so do not come here with unrealistic expectations and you will not be...

I was very disappointed with this wildlife refuge. I drove here from Georgia, because the website made it seems as if it was a great place to view diverse wildlife. To start there were lots of motorized boats I could hear engines the entire time. The wetland trail was closed due to damage in 2015, I thought things would have been prepared sometime in the last 4 years. The trails that were open were short about a mile in length and, wide enough for a vehicle and were very worn down from bikes. The website was very misleading. The map showed large amounts of nature (they claim 22 acres) but the trails do not access much of it. It's a great place for fishing and boating but not for wetland nature viewing. There were some cute...

There use of one inch plus stone on walking trails could cause injuries to people on foot. Also the boardwalk through a portion of swamp has been closed since 2015. Seems like maintenance is lacking. Also the area is void of any wildlife. Maybe the time of year? Great place to walk your dog's! See the park service driving around, but not anything else but leaning on shovels and talking by service shed. The park could use some attention! There is some trash and vandalization taking place that does not get the attention it needs. A shame really. Still the worst kept DOTI property I have been to in 36 states! However it's the only quiet place in the...

Visit May 4, 2023. Lovely trail from parking lot to Cox Ferry Lake (Blue Trail) about 4.3 Km (2.7 miles) in 45 minutes at a slow walk. Generally flat with a few tame inclines. Boardwalk through the swampy area was lovely. Not very many bugs at this time of year. Plenty of wildlife (birds, deer) and variety of flora.
