If you're mountain biking, this place is 5 stars. But for anything else, this place is a waste of money. The "campsites" are more realistically camper sites. They are packed closely together and it's just a big cement pad. Check those out on satellite view. It does have direct access to the kalamazoo river valley trail, which is nice. They have a great lake here......that you can't really use. It would be fun for taking a kayak or paddle board with children, but all you can do is swim in the designated area, which seems to usually be packed with goose/duck poop. That's not located particularly close to the playground either. Their site lists volleyball, but I've never seen that, nor do I know where the area would be. They have tennis courts. Ah, but I've never seen nets. So what's the entry fee for? All the upkeep, lack of lifeguards? Look, I'm all for supporting the parks. I get the recreation pass even though we are lucky to get to a state park once a year. This place Could be pretty fun. And hopefully the new biking trail, again it's Super awesome, will inject some more funds into this park. I got the $25 pass here. It's worth it for the biking. But to just bring the family? There are other parks that are better...
Read moreThis park is pretty and clean it offers a nice area to walk around, but there are definitely things they could improve.
They are very strict about check-in and check-out times. We called to see if we could arrive a little earlier than 3 PM, and even though the spot was ready, they told us we still couldn’t come.
In the past, we let them know we might be a few minutes late checking out due to work, and they said it would be fine — only to then “mark our account” because we were 15 minutes late, despite the prior communication.
They also charge everyday for an additional vehicle, even though we’re already camping there and the second vehicle doesn’t take up any extra space. Our first vehicle is also primarily for towing.
Staff is hard to get ahold of, so anyone for reservations doesn't get back to us. It’s always the check in office and they can’t help with anything.
Lastly, other reviews mention a veteran discount, but they haven’t offered it to us.
Overall, it feels overpriced, especially when they find ways to add on extra charges, and there’s not much offered by the park beyond a scenic area to...
Read moreThis is a very affordable county park with a few RV sites. Unlike many county parks across the US which can be marginal, this is set in a beautiful quiet park complex with all of the necessary 30/50 amp full hook-ups amenities usual to most larger RV parks. We stayed 3 days while visiting our daughter. The RV park has a wonderful lake with an island in the middle that you can walk to over a bridge. Plenty of options for walking, biking, swimming, fishing and picnicking. They are very dog friendly. We experienced a small train next to the park one time and it was very brief. Generally this place is a very quiet peaceful place for families and travelers.
The staff has firewood at the entry and bends over backwards to help. Shopping of any kind is on Douglass Ave about 10 minutes from the park. There's anything you need here. This is a college town and home to WMU. The town is broken into different communities with little parks everywhere and well kept older homes.
We found this place to be a real hidden gem, but book early as they only have 20-30 sites and are constantly booked up.
We highly recommend...
