I used to visit this sandbar 30 years ago; my mother and grandfather 60 years ago. Back then it was quiet, the water pristine, nobody played music above private hearing level, and boaters knew how to follow the rules (i.e. no speeding, knowing signs, no driving the boat while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, etc.). Families could safely go in the water and the sea life was so abundant that the coral reefs were alive, so you could snorkel all day because nobody polluted the Bay.
After reading all the reviews here, I now know all of this is gone and that 99% of reviewers think the place is still cool, but for different reasons:
You think it’s cool to drive your yachts at high speeds. You think it’s cool to boat while drunk and high. You pollute. You don’t pay attention to what’s around you.
Why am I writing this review if you could gather this from reading the others?
Because one of you killed my friend’s 15 year old daughter at this sandbar recently. A coward, likely impaired, not paying attention, probably blasting music and not following signs ran her over with their boat.
So, if that kind of place is your idea of a “good time,” so be it. But now you know: when you’re in the ocean, on a sandbar, it’s no different than being on land. If you’re not mindful, you could kill a young innocent child. So maybe keep the partying in the clubs and treat boating with the same cautions you should take on the road or in the sky.
