Worst State Park ever, possibly the worst RV Park in North America. Arrived in our motorhome with vehicle in tow at 1:50 pm and were told check-in is at 2 pm, that we’d have to turn around, leave and wait in day use parking lot next door. By the time they barked their orders at us it was 1:55. Upon turning around we passed our vacant site. No common sense or courtesy here.

In the day use lot, another gentleman waiting in his motorhome for check-in told us he had arrived earlier and was told the same, however, they charged him a fee for using the day lot he was told to wait in!

Upon check-in minutes later, they told us they lock the front gates at 7pm and if we didn’t get back in time we’d be locked out of the park. Wow. Is this a concentration camp? Our plans to experience fine dining and evening events in Coronado just went out the window. Too bad your State Park is killing your tourism business, Coronado!

Dump station: There’s no sewer hook-up here. There’s a metered dump station that costs $10 for 1 minute of dumping. Have your credit card ready as it’s impossible to empty tanks within 1 minute. Talk about ripping off tourists! Wait for the local sani-truck to come around instead. He comes daily and will save you the hassle for $20.

When booking online only a handful of sites were available for our dates, yet during our entire stay the ‘non-available’ sites remained vacant. We learned from a local that military people are allowed to book these sites for $7/month ‘just in case they want to use them’. Yet we paid $50/night!

One day we witnessed smoke coming from one of the dumpsters. A park employee walked over, circled it a couple of times, shrugged her shoulders and went back into the office. Another employee used a pole to open the lid, now melting and collapsing. Flames and black smoke shot up and he threw a couple of buckets of sand on it, while the other employee stood and watched (I have it on video). Then he walked away. 10 minutes later a full size fire truck boom and 4-5 firemen put out the fire. Clearly the staff is untrained in fire safety. Sure didn’t feel too safe after this episode, especially when we get locked in at 7 pm.

We won’t come back here. The beach is lovely (when it’s not closed due to raw sewage from Mexico), and there are some lovely cafes, though we have no idea about the dinner restaurants due to the stupid curfew. You’re better off staying in San Diego or Chula Vista. This isn’t a park, it’s a prison run by rude, obnoxious, untrained, cop-wanna-be’s. The mandatory one-star rating is for the beach...

Camp at your own risk at this Silver Strand State Beach Campground. Even if the gates are closed at night, there is rampant bike theft. No campground security is watching the campground for thieves especially at night. Campground Security is lacking in this location because your bikes and things will be stolen by thieves especially when the lights are out. All security has to do is shine a bright light at the thief and ask to check for registration and wait for the thief to enter the RV. Tell the thief, there is rampant theft so registration has to be checked. If the thief does not enter the RV, then that thief lives somewhere else and is not registered for that campsite. Campground hosts can play a role in prevention by being visible, approachable, and aware of their surroundings. But the Campground Hosts are not aware of the surrounding and rampant theft. They can also be a valuable resource for reporting incidents. Hosts should be visible and approachable, creating a sense of safety and awareness but there is no sense of safety nor awareness. Hosts can foster a sense of community among campers, encouraging them to look out for each other. Are the fellow campers thieves? Are the camp hosts the thieves? When we reported the theft, it appeared that the camp administrators do not care like theft happens everyday that they have become immune to it. Before booking, research the campground's reputation for safety...

DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY! this park is very over priced considering the lack of amenities provided and the restrictions places on campers/Beach goers.

This site is an old beach parking lot (confirmed by workers) that they installed water and electric hook ups to. There are no showers (only cold outdoor public rinse off showers) and bathrooms are equivalent to one of a prisons (which are locked early at night so good luck because no one is able to access them )

Gate is locked at 8pm! No code for access so campers can come and go. The Beach is unusable because there is seweage contamination which there is zero mention of on the website. You are literally parked on top of your neighbor and if they have side outs, your really screwed. And on top of all this, staff are extremely rude, judgy, and unhelpful when it came to needing help. For example our spots electric didn't work, so we moved and that spot didn't work so we moved and that spot did finally but they were prepared to tell me oh well! Instead of trying to fix it. Also campers are running around with dogs off leash, but when brought to the staffs attention, it was met with "I'll talk to them if I get around to it" meanwhile i can't bring my dog out to pee without fearing someone's dog is offleash nearby and will approach us.

Overall terrible experience, couldn't wait to leave and never coming back. Again, don't waste your time or money. Go to...
