This was a fun and exciting adventure that my daughter and son in law took after we left Mesa Verde. We were spending the weekend celebrating my birthday and decided to try something different and Dotty Wampus caught our attention because we love chocolate. We were not aware of how far down a dirt road we would have to go and I got a bit nervous. When we arrived it looked like a witches house and I said to my kids I hope I have not made a mistake.
However once we were inside that is when the magic began to happen. Joanne greeted us warmly and made sure we all had cold sparkling or bottled water. In just a few moments Bryan popped out and it was like Willy Wonka had showed up. From the moment the show began we were all mesmerized. Bryan is very engaging and laughs at his own jokes (We Liked That) while giving a stellar performance and education in the history of chocolate and how to make some fantastic chocolate concoctions (which Joanne enhances with her artistic expertise). It was very much worth the money and we left with over a dozen of truffles.
If you are out in southwest Colorado there is not a lot to do out side of the national parks, hiking and taking in the scenery, so this was a little something whimsical, quirky, fun, educating and tasty to do to get out of the summer heat. I highly recommend a visit if you are passing through Cortez on your way to the next adventure give this one a try as...
Read moreI knew going in that this was going to be a great experience, and it did not disappoint. There's a rare skill of showmanship and merriment that underlies Dotty Wampus and the couple who built it. Consummate showmanship and chocolatiers, it's the rare perfect blend of unpretentious fun, magic, and excellent recipes. The show has just the right degree of self-consciousness and actual education, and manages to not feel overly commercialized. You'll wonder if you've gotten lost on the drive in, then ask if you're in the right place or not, but trust the handmade sign to tell you that you've indeed arrived at the right destination.
I sincerely hope that Bryan and Joanne continue to grow and build Dotty Wampus for many years to come! I intend to go back and...
Read moreDotty Wampus Magical Chocolate Factory really lives up to its name! it was truly a magical experience. From the moment we walked in, everything felt warm, welcoming, and full of wonder. The space is creative and fun, and you can tell a lot of heart went into building this place.
I ended up buying a lot because everything we tried on our tour was so good, but the pop rock chocolates were hands down my personal favorite. They were nostalgic, unique, and just plain delicious.
