We had a group of 11 and between us we did all the attractions. The cave tour was cool, but since we had been to Mammoth Cave, it seemed short and small. The boat ride was unique. I thought the guide was very quirky. I think a more serious tour that teaches more about caves themselves would be helpful. It would be nice to have had more education than weird jokes. Jokes on tours like that are natural from older men, but when young ladies tell the jokes you know it's just scripted. The movie at the beginning started nicely, but the whole thing about trying to teach evolution and cram it into what the Bible teaches doesn't fit. Pick one of the other. Use the Bible to fit your science into. Don't try to fit Christianity into evolution because you don't want to give up billions of years and the world's ideas of how life started. If you're going to present yourself as a Bible-friendly place, then you need to mention the Flood and the biblical account of Creation! Those two things have a lot more to do with that cave than events that have happened over "billions of years. " The gift shop was nice. Employees at the desk friendly. Nice clean large restroom. I probably would skip the kid's crawl through the black tube. Three of us adults did the zip coaster and it was very fun. Very short, so if you're a total thrill seeker, this might be a little too tame for you. My husband went into the Escape Room with a few teenagers. They liked it a lot. First Escape room experience for everyone. A couple of our littles did the gem mining and they really liked that. They played for a while at the sleuce and then sat on the picnic tables and matched up their gems with the pamphlet. I think the cost of everything was decent. Not...
Read moreGreat drive there. good experience touring thru the cavern, young male tour guide was pleasant and just enough informative, there was a 10 minute educational video at beginning, steep slippery entrance going down with no hand rail, i had to grab at the cave wall on my right, right after tour guide said don’t touch anything, endured a lot of metal stairs going down without proper lightingi had to hold on to left and right handrails of the tight winding metal stairs going down into cave, being super careful with my footing, some steps not visible due to the darkness, more walking, walking, stairs, more walking, finally a nice maybe 20 minute boat ride, they were busy as we passed three other tour groups, then walking back, walking, walking up steep metal stairs to get out. maybe four flights, my legs were rubber upon exit. entire tour experience was about 1:15 hour long. the gift shop has a variety, pleasant and clean. staff was pleasant and helpful. restroom was super clean and employee was in there cleaning it. kudos to the young lady cleaning the restroom. we were unsure about the baby goats. they had collars, all males with beautiful blue eyes. the young man goat attendant seemed unenthusiastic, the goat enclosure wasn’t mowed, therefore, not maintained looking. The zip coaster looks fun! looks like enough area to bring...
Read moreDriving through Indiana, past Kentucky, the signs for Indiana Caverns accumulate to an almost obnoxious degree, tantalizing wayward travelers with the allure of adventure down below the surface of a quite rural Mid-western landscape.
Yes, there are impressive caves below. The ticket for a cave tour is a bit expensive ($25/person) and the wait time was a bit long, but for the amount of entertainment and length of the tour (1 hour and 20 min) and cave-enthusiasm of our guide it seems quite appropriate for an afternoon of spelunking. There was a photo opportunity mid cave tour in which everyone seemingly had took a photo but it was revealed at the end that it was $9.75 to purchase which felt oddly expensive. Yes, there is also some Christian rocks lying about (seems to have a bit of a faith based vibe), however the organization itself seems pretty pro-science, with geologically accurate messaging and information.
While we restrained ourselves to exploring the cave, due to time constraints, but there are a plethora of other options to explore while you are visiting - a bat chase zip line, a child sized cave simulation, and some more intense spelunking adventures for those inclined. Overall, the folks that run the mission are quite friendly and it was a pretty fun and strangely unexpected highlight on...
