Chase County State Lake — Attraction in Cottonwood Falls

A hidden gem in the Flint Hills that most don't know about (which you do, reading reviews of this place). The drive from Wichita to here is amazing, and the place itself is even better. The lake is placid, the falls are mid-sized and are scattered with slate (watch out for snakes), and the hills around the lake look straight out of that old Windows background. Most of the time, the lake only has a few or is even barren of people. If you are really looking, you can even find some fossils scattered around the lake. We enjoy camping here and do so occasionally. I’d advise against camping here on holiday weekends since it can get very busy and the best locations get taken early.

If it’s rained anytime recently the waterfall on the other side of the dam is a wonderful treat. Take water shoes and go into the stream and enjoy playing in the water.
