The legend——On July 21, 1873, Jesse James and his gang, the James–Younger Gang, derailed a Rock Island Railroad train and stole $3,000 from it, a mile and a half west of Adair, Iowa. This is often considered the first robbery of a moving train in the world, and some say it was the first successful train robbery in the American West. There's a contingent group of people who think part of the crime is in the lake. I can't see how they could have been that unorganized. It's a great tall tale that will keep up the iconic pond's mystique. It makes for a peaceful walk. I think the city should dredge out the whole park and send in professional scuba divers to see if the story is true.

I love this lake! I especially love the trout stocking program the DNR does here in the fall and winter. Once the water gets cool enough to sustain trout they place them in the water and you can take up to five a day. They are tasty and fun to catch. In the summer, the lake has a lot of panfish and bass, also I have seen some people take some decent sized catfish out of here. There are also a ton of waterfowl such as pelicans, geese, and ducks that call the lake and the surrounding park home. Additionally, you can see muskrats, rabbits, frogs, and other creatures. It is super close to Omaha and Council Bluffs and a great little natural area. I would highly recommend a visit.
