For a public county park surrounded by two lakes, I was very surprised and disappointed to visit there hoping to fish, as was stated as one of the amenities available to guests. The swimming area was very popular, there were picnic tables, lots of trees providing shade, designated dog-friendly except for the swimming area, and grills provided. Fishing, however, was relegated to a very small part of the shoreline to the left of the swimming area and no real way to access that portion unless wading in. The most disappointing part of the park, again, designated as a public access and county funded park, were the signs prohibiting any launching of any type of vessel. Given this was not listed on the Kent County Parks and Recreation site, there was no way of knowing this beforehand through those channels. It seemed one other person was surprised by this restriction on the day I visited. He had waded chest deep into the water with his fishing rod having beached his kayak near one of the signs restricting water access. The only vessels seen on the lakes that day were clearly those of the owners of property surrounding these public lakes. It's positively shameful that a tax supported public access waterway can be differentially denied to a greater percentage of those helping to support it while full use of it is granted to those who can afford to own property surrounding it. Questions need to be asked...
Read moreJust moved into a home about 5 minutes away. Went for the first time a few weeks ago before they closed for the season. Nice beach. We really enjoyed it. It wasn't huge or real crowded which made it perfect for us coming with 4 kids. It seemed pretty clean and they had (real) bathrooms available. Can't wait to go back next summer
updated review Just went back again after they recently redid the beach. Still enjoyed it and love that they took out the small ledge you had to step off of near the edge of the water - much better now - and they made it bigger! We didnt ger a chance to play at the park this time but my kids are eager to go back to...
Read moreMy family and I have been regulars at this park for many years. Yesterday we left for our relaxing day at the lake, and found a rude "ranger" and an angry kent county officer on parole. The park tenant was picking and choosing whom she made follow rules. In past years we would spend the whole day at this lake, yesterday we only stayed for a couple hours due to the unwelcoming feeling my husband and I expeiranced. We asked each other where the rangers from the previous years were, we may not have remembered their names but we sure did remember them and appericated the way they handled themselves and rule...
