Lake Moomaw — Attraction in Covington

We stopped at the visitor center and the swimming area. The visitor center has very helpful attendant and it was very clean and nice. The swimming area is a little small but it wasn't very crowded when we went on memorial day. It is a beautiful swimming area with the mountains in the background. It has a low $5 fee for use and parking nearby. I only gave 4 stars because I'm comparing it to Smith mountain Lake's swimming area, which has a lot more to offer, although...

Have tried to list this as abandoned on Facebook. The main picnic area and boat ramps at the marina are closed. Cannot even use the picnic area. Used to be a great destination. Whatever government agency that is in charge of the website should update it, as it still shows the Marina store that has been closed for at 2 yrs as open. Sad to see such a nice area left to rot. I've been camping here with my family for years. It's beautiful lakeside camping. Unfortunately we've had really rude interactions with other campers the past couple years - people walking right through our campsite was a huge issue last summer - so we're taking a break from this area.
