An amazing place that is truly a unique hidden gem in Indiana. Echoing the comment of another reviewer, Portland Arch Nature Preserve offers the beauty and uniqueness of Turkey Run (one of my favorite state parks) without the crowds (there wasn't a single car in the parking lot when we arrived on a Saturday around 11:30am)! The trail itself isn't very long at coming in at just over a mile, but there are plenty of places to explore and downloading the trail guide ahead of time was very informative in learning about different features as the trail had numbered sign posts along the way (although some were in need of repair to make the number more legible). For those wondering about whether this trail is closed based on other reviews, it has now reopened after repair work was done on...

If you’re a photographer, you just found the hidden gem of Indiana. This is the largest natural sandstone arch in the entire state and because of the natural erosion and special algae that grows in this unique environment, you get some of the most spectacular colors I’ve ever seen anywhere in the world. Don’t believe me? See for yourself. It’s my favorite place to go as it’s not very busy and you can take your time on the short loop through the preserve. Fun landmarks, beautiful natural structures, and vibrant foliage along the river bed make this a place to remember. I...

Drove from Kokomo, over 80 miles, to visit Indiana's Portland Arch, July 27, 2020. 92° and threatening rain. Good signage to both parking lots. North parking lot was barricaded closed. South parking open. Nobody there but myself.

Hiked 2 loops of rugged trails, about an hour. Signage VERY POOR. NON EXISTENT after parking lot. I did NOT find/see the Indiana Portland Arch.

I blame the DNR due to NO trail signage . Really kind of creepy feeling.

I was glad to get back in the car and onto the gravel road. I'll NOT be returning...

We got a little lost at first but it was a wonderful hike and beautiful scenery. Google told us where to park and we saw a path entrance across the road... Wrong path to get to the arch! The arch path is on the same side you park. The trail leads left and right but it is a big loop so either choice is fine (the left gets there quicker!) The trail across from parking was the South trail I believe. We realized our mistake after seeing it so overgrown, but we hiked a good bit of it as well. I recommend staying on the parking lot side tho. 😍
