I tell you. I am so disappointed in our local and State government. I have basically lived in Rockwood for 47 years. I become a Jr volunteer fire fighter when I had time I would go hang out with Roger at the fire tower. That's when this was a absolutely beautiful place to be. All the trees where cut back neatly trimmed the grass was always kept mowed and trimmed. I would love to see Governor Hasslem just pop in up there one pretty afternoon. Id be willing to be he would order the highway signs down until this absolutely now trashed up dump was cleaned up trimmed up and maintained. How many inmates are in jail right now. Yes its state property, however every inmate is charged by the state of Tennessee. Not Roane County. I love it up it's my thinking spot and my youngest daughter and I ride up quite often. I sat up at it for 4 or 5 hours just last night. But stepping out and walking to the picnic area can be quite dangerous and snaky. Come on Tennessee and Roane County. Work together and get the park cleaned up. Or put up a gate at the bottom of...
Read moreGreat little scenic overlook that I frequently visit as many of the locals. There are a few benches to sit down at, some local graffiti. The grass isn't always maintained as I can imagine how hard it is to get up there in the regular. The road up there is a small one, so don't go flying up or down, never had any issues though. Most of it is paved with a few dips and washes out spots, but any car, motorcycle can easily do it. There's a fire tower that you don't have access to, and not a ton of space for parking, but I've never been there crowded or seen too many people. They light the star up sometime around Christmas so you can stop and see that too around then. There seems to be a private house at the top that is gated and has cameras, so do your best to take your...
Read moreOne of my favorite overlooks, and just a few miles down the road from Ozone Falls! There used to be a little house, possibly a rangerʻs residence, below the old fire tower. It used to be possible to go all the way up the stairs of the tower, and i can remember a brief period, around 2004, when it was possible to go inside the fire tower! But now many of the flights of steps have been removed, making it very difficult, and dangerous, but not impossible, to climb the tower. DONʻT try, unless youʻre a skilled extreme sportsman, because if you fell, and survived, youʻd have to wait a little bit for an ambulance...
